We Tried It: The Last of The Cabbage Soup
Cabbage Soup - The Home Stretch…
We’re almost there! The final days of the Cabbage Soup Diet are winding down — and as I look back - I’ve definitely learned a few things about my eating habits. I have always considered myself a pretty healthy eater, but while I was on this plan, it occurred to me that I don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables. They’re usually on my plate, but probably not enough of them. This diet also helped me create different combinations of vegetables cooked in various ways with different spices. I guess when you’re stuck eating only veggies for a few days, the creative juices start to flow.
Talking with Karlie, she agreed. More fruits and veggies are the way to go. She made another valid point too. She has learned to be more aware of what she is actually putting into her mouth, and she’s making sure to drink more water, something she didn’t do before this diet.
So call it a “fad diet” if you will. But it did help the both of us “kick start” some better and healthier eating habits.
After the seven days on the Cabbage Soup Diet we have both lost five pounds — and as a result we are keeping better track of what we are eating, when we are eating and why and how it is prepared. There are more fruits and vegetables in our diet, lower carbohydrate intake, less sugar and more exercise. I have personally lost another four pounds keeping this healthy lifestyle.

Day 5 - Menu
Beef and Tomatoes Day!
You may have 10-20 ounces of beef and up to six fresh tomatoes. Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water this day to wash the uric acid from your body. Eat your soup at least once today. You may eat broiled or baked skinless chicken instead of beef. If you prefer, you can substitute broiled fish for the beef. Drink plenty of water and take a multivitamin.
Creative Creations: Using stewed tomatoes can sauce up your chicken or beef. Add some Italian seasonings for a different flavor. For dinner try chicken and tomato kabobs with some different seasonings.
Day 6 - Menu
Beef and Vegetables Day!
Eat all the beef and vegetables you want on this day. You can even have 2 or 3 steaks if you like. Eat a lot of of vegetables, making sure you have a lot of leafy green ones. No Baked Potato. Eat your soup at least once. Drink plenty of water and take a multivitamin.
Creative Creations: There are many ways to make your veggies taste good, on this day try different spices, grill them, boil them, eat them raw. You have endless options. For lunch or dinner you can make steak kabobs with grilled vegetables. Also, try sliced flank steak or grilled chicken over a green salad.
Day 7 - Menu
Brown Rice & Veggie Day!
You can eat as much brown rice and vegetables today. Be sure to eat your soup at least once this day. Drink plenty of water and take a multivitamin.
Creative Creations: Lost at what to have for breakfast? Again, using sweet spices like cinnamon or nutmeg can add a different flavor to your brown rice. For lunch or dinner, try sautéing a variety of vegetables and mix in brown rice with low sodium soy sauce in a wok to create a Asian style stir-fry. Remember to drink lots of water and/or unsweetened fruit juices.

Hi,
I, too, have done the cabbage soup diet but I make it with …….cabbage….of course……=0)…celery, carrots, onions,………also…….we boil down our chicken…….it’s more shredded then………white meat….put it in the fridge…….let the fat rise………trim off the fat….then add the chicken and the broth………..and to jazz it up………SALSA………it’s yummy………and very healthy!
It is awesome!
Good luck! I have lost 37 lbs……….so I feel for ya!
Hi Cindy!
Wondering, how did you lose the 37 pounds? Not soley on the Cabbage Soup diet, right?
That is great!
Thank you for the comment!

It worked for me.
It is amazing that you are doing this diet, too. My office (3 girls working night shift) tried it last week. We started on a Wednesday. The first day was hard. We were so hungry on day 1. However, we did excellent. We did not cheat. Two of us lost 6 lbs and 1 of us lost 9 lbs. We did not get weak and had lots of energy, especially on day 3. We all agreed that it made us feel thinner, our clothes fitted better and we believe this diet reset our body to burn fat, in such short amount of time. We do recommend this diet.
Hi Myra - I agree, I think the limited carbs made me feel thinner too. Even if it was for a week. This helped me eat more veggies and fruit and less carbs.
How is everyone doing “post-cabbage soup diet”… keeping up healthy eating? Losing anymore weight?
Thank you for commenting,
Melissa
Interesting series on the cabbage soup diet…
Diets like these are short term quick fixes to a more pervasive problem of dietary impatience. I’ve worked with many people who want to lose weight fast and go on programs like these only to gain the weight back after they stop.
Living and whole foods (more raw, less cooked) are a much better way to get your nutrients as well as establish a habit of health not a 7-14 day calorie binge which sets you up for failure and unfortunately weight gain.
Thanks for these videos!

Good luck on your quest. My diet is excellent. I eat anything I want as often as I want and in whatever quantities I want except when I’m asleep. Unfortunately there are side effects. My boss doesn’t like me sleeping in until midday and using my diet as an excuse. And it doesn’t work. But then what diet does?
If you start the diet on a Tuesday, you can enjoy your two meat days on the weekend when life should be less hectic.
Hi Chris,
I agree. It was a lot easier for me to enjoy meat and veggies on a Saturday evening! Plus if you go out for dinner, you can pretty much order that… within reason of course. Any other diet tips?
Thanks for the comments!

Our delightful media and advertising has imbued us with the idea that we should eat until “full”. This is what is causing our current obesity epidemic. Eating until full is what packs of dogs do whenever they can, or lions. Omnivores never do that. Humans are omnivores, designed for eating very small amounts of food, frequently, throughout the day, without ever filling the stomach. Eating in such a manner, consuming more than we want or need at one time, has hurt us horribly. Teaching children that they must eat ALL their food is the same mistake. One should eat according to what is very good to eat, not how much of it there is available. Fixing this would do more toward curing diabetes than anything medical science can come up with.
GOOD JOB GIRLS!!!

Hi, I am trying to find the link for this morning’s show. I was getting dressed and saw a brief scene with healthy eating, a Dr. promoting her new book. She spoke about eating KALE, which I love. Can someone give me the link to what she suggests eating for healthy skin, body? Thanks.
So in the mean time and before and certainly after this ridiculous diet,my wife and I continue to eat from 8 inch plates instead of 10inch.We started doing the 8 inch plates about a year ago and we have lost a combined total of 96 pounds. We eat about 4 ounces of meat along with plenty of fruis and vegetables.Pastas, whole grain breads, nuts and water.Black coffee.Whatever fits nicely on an 8 inch plate. This is working wonders.
You go girl!
Congratulations on discovering that there are ways to eat more fruits and veggies and on your willpower!!!
I have a burning question, and can’t find the answer anywhere: On the ‘All Fruit’ day, were you ’sensible’? I mean, I can eat 2 pounds of grapes and 3 pounds of strawberries on that day?
It would be wonderful if you told us how you did the cabbage soup diet, as the various forums postings refer to ‘4 grapes’ and ‘not going over 1000 calories a day’, which may be misleading to people!
I’m about to write a new diet book. Its title will be “Dieting is a numbers game.”
I lost 52 lbs in the last year by doing simple math: 3500 calories per lb. and it doesn’t matter whether one works off the lbs by the numbers or abstains from all high-calory foods, regardless of food-type.
My diet consists of high fiber cereal for breakfast (300 c), a large vegetable salad for lunch with either tuna or chicken on top and and apple (400 c) then, soup and stone-ground crackers for dinner (500 c). Since my calorie needs are about 2500/day it is easy to do the math and see why I lost weight and feel good and satisfied most of the time. When I need a snack, a boiled egg suffices mid-morning and raw veggies in the afternoon.
Anyone can do it. you need only a goal of where you want to be, a vision of your appearance at that weight and perseverance.
The best cabbage soup diet that i found was at Cabbage-Soup-Dieting.com
I feel so much better eating cabbage soup - although not for every meal - and here are some ideas that might help change your recipe a little. I use brocoli slaw as well as bagged cole slaw - makes it easier than chopping cabbage. I also use Spicy V8 as a base. I have used cilantro as well as a jalepeno. I find eating this soup once a day when I don’t fit in all my vegies. Healthy eating!
the cabbage soup diet is great the best version i found was at http://www.cabbage-soup-dieting.com try it, it reall works
I tried this diet twice. First time I lost 17 pounds in 2 weeks. Kept things intersting by adding picante sauce or low sodium soy sauce to my serving of soup to put a different spin on the flavor. Worked well.
A year later, I started the diet again, but only lost about 5 pounds. Just couldn’t stomach the soup diet a second time. Do it once, change your eating habbits. Don’t let this become a go-to routine.
Hi Melissa,
The videos are great and a wonderful addition to the cabbage soup diet information cursing on the net. You mentionned the lack of protein - slowing down your concentration and reaction. There exists in the meanwhile an improved cabbage soup diet plan with added protein which takes this fact into account. You are allowed to drink “fat burner shakes” with protein twice a day.
Here you find the plan http://www.successful-diet-cabbage-soup.com/7-day-soup-diet.html
I’ve tried both versions and must admit that the added protein made me feel much better and gave me more energy through the day. I lost 7 pounds in a week without hunger cravings.
My husband and I are on day 5 of the 7 day cabbage diet. So for we’ve each lost 10 lbs. With three more days to go I’m hoping to lose a total of 12 to 15 lbs. Today is our meat day and I’m really looking forward to a nice dinner tonight. If it wouldn’t have been for my husband being my diet buddy I think I would have cheated. After seeing the results, I’m glad I didn’t.
Try it… it works!!!
Two Main Vitamins In Sweet Potatoes…
Cabbage Soup - The Home Stretch…
Not enough Protein or nutrients/minerals/vitamins? Then you simply aren’t eating enough fruits and vegetables. If you eat plenty of vegetables (raw diet) you will get plenty of protein. Again, plenty of nutrients/vitamins.
Remember nuts/seeds are fruits too and HIGH in protein/minerals/nutrients.
I would suggest studying the diet of a vegan. They get plenty of vitamins/minerals/nutrients/proteing and they don’t ever eat any meat. There are some that eat all raw and they don’t have head fogginess or low concentration. All that stuff is a myth because most people do not eat right and eat the wrong kinds of foods or not enough.
You should get Dr. McDougall’s DVD to help you out in that department of nutrition.
