RE: ANESTHESIA AWARENESS

I also was conscious during an operation to repair a deviated septum. I could hear the noise of a hammer hitting a chisel-like devise and then realized it the chisel was in my nose after feeling my head shake in response to the impact. I was trying to make a noise and move. I could see images in the room as well, but not very clearly. I could also hear the conversations in the room, and remember hearing someone say “I think he’s awake”. I don’t recall anything after that.

While in the recovery room, I mentioned this episode to the surgeon, and he immediately dismissed it as some kind of dream. He probably thought I was going to file a malpractice lawsuit.

RE: GIRL BORN WITH TWO FACES

What God has 2 faces in the Hindu religion? I understand the medical ramifications of having 2 faces, but as the Left sided Liberals want us to be, shouldn’t we be culturally sensitive to what they believe and not try and go in and change this child’s appearance? If we do, isn’t that exactly what the Left believes we are doing to the rest of the world by making them be more like us here in the U.S.? My belief is not on that side of the fence, when it comes to the politics of it all, but I just thought that I’d bring that up to make the Liberals think, “Where do we stop trying to help people around the world? At the birth defects or mass genocidal killings?” And if we help, then how do we do it WITHOUT the Military? Unfortunatly, “Pacifist can not be kept safe without a force willing to protect them”. RE: ANESTHESIA AWARENESS

I awoke during an appendectomy back in 1972 when I was 15 years old. All I can recall was a yellowish tint to the lighting in the OR due to Vasoline on my eyes. I remember struggling somewhat and raising my head. Then a shadowy figure with a white cap pressed my head down on the table and then placed a black mask over my face. The ether began to flow and the next thing I recalled was waking up in my hospital room to my Mom’s voice.

RE: GIRL’S GROWTH STUNTED

I had a brother who was severly handicapped shortly after birth. My parents and I took care of him for 25 years. We never regretted keeping him at home. The only other option would have been to institutionalize him. As he grew to over 125 pounds he became difficult to transfer and to take care of. We did it despite of the problems his size created.
I applaud the family for deciding to care for their daughter at home. She will be able to experience the love of her parents every day. I think the option to stunt her physical development was the proper option to use. It will make her life and that of her parents much easier. Her mental development, whatever it may be, is not compromised.
As for those who shout that the “state” should have prevented this, I say, who has the right to tell loving parents what to do with their childrens health. So long as the child’s life is not in jeopardy, no one other than the parents are qualified to make those decisions.
As long as doctors have the authority, and the medical profession doesn’t question that authority, to end an iunborn nfant’s life then there is no room to now stand on a soap box and condem the parents’ actions.

RE: ANESTHESIA AWARENESS

This happened to my Godmother. She has described waking up during surgery as a nightmare you will never forget. You couldn’t move to let the doctors know you are awake. The pain is so intense, it can’t be desribed. I am now terribly afraid to have surgery or for any of my love ones to. I don’t know what the answer is, but something must be done about this. RE: ANESTHESIA AWARENESS

The study showed that the BIS monitor DID NOT PREVENT AWARENESS DURING SURGERY. In other words, it DOES NOT WORK. This is not the first time a large study has shown the monitor DOES NOT WORK.

Anesthesiologists like me don’t avoid it because of the cost - we avoid it because there’s no proof it does anything useful.

Spokespeople for the company should be viewed for what they are - shills trying to make a buck by scaring the public.

RE: GIRL’S GROWTH STUNTED

I have thought long and hard about the girl that had the surgery to stunt the growth and agree this child has to deal with so much as it is. Her parents and her self is who has to live their daily lives not everyone in this country who are we to say what needs to happen in there house hold. As a parent can you imaging the stress that is related to this and why would we not take what pain we can away if we are able I would for my girls if they had a disability that may interfer with their daily lifes. Why let this happen to them to.. She goes through enough. I feel for the family of the Doctor I feel he did what was right and he knew in his heart it was right or he would not have done this they take a othe and I feel he meet my expectations of a great doctor. I feel that the Goverment shouldn’t always be in our patient rooms.

RE: ANESTHESIA AWARENESS

During my operation in September of 2006 for a colon sectioning, I woke up. I saw the face of the doctor and struggled to move or say something. He told me everything was okay and to just relax and breath. Not only could I not say anything, blink or move… I could not breathe… I was terrified. I felt like I was suffocating.
The next thing I remember was the recovery room.
When I told my doctor about it, he said he had never heard of such a thing. Then I told everyone who came into my room in the hospital… I got a lot of sympathic looks, but no validation. Then came the nightmares, the broaken sleep patterns, and the self questioning as to this being all a dream.
Three months later after pressing my doctor for answers, he told me to call the hospitals chief of anesthesiology. I did and was assured it was not a dream, it was not in my imagination, and while the data from my records did not indicate anything abnormal, he believed me and would put it on my records for future reference. What a relief to finally have validation.
He explained that within seconds of receiving the initial anesthesia, another drug to immobilize the body is administered, (so there will be no movement during surgery) and that it was possible this was given too soon before I was fully under.
Don’t know if this is what really happened, but it was good enough to give me some answers to a terrifying ordeal.

RE: ANESTHESIA AWARENESS

That happened to me in 2001. I was having a broken arm screwed back together, 3 surgeries for it over 6 days…fun fun. I remember waking up and being told something like, “shh, go back to sleep” and that was it. I even remember the tube in my mouth but don’t remember the pain. Everyone told me it didn’t happen but I thought different.

RE: ANESTHESIA AWARENESS

Years ago, I too woke up during surgery for a deviated septum. I remember hearing the staff around me talking about what they will be doing during that weekend… laughing and joking around… I remember saying to myself… “Hey, they should be paying more attention here since they are working on my face.” I always thought surgery was a serious matter and was disillusioned that day that my case was just run-of-the-mill for the folks around me.

I remember the crackerling and pressure on my face / nose as they were cutting and bearing down. Along with feeling of the septum giving way, when the cutting was complete. Then they started caurterizing (bad spelling) my nose.. I could hear the sound, was aware of the smell of burning flesh and the rising of smoke up my nostrils.

I cried out loud “PAIN” and they were startled.. “Is she awake?” they said. “NO” was the reply. I said “PAIN” again… “Oh my God” I heard… and I was then out.

I brought this up afterwards to the staff and they said I was mistaken… Right…. It was all a figment of my imagination, due to the drugs…

In 2003 I had a hip replacement. I remember waking up with my Dr. straddleing me, working on my hip. I felt the tugging and heard the saw, but i felt no pain. I must have moved, because the nurse turned to me and ask if I was alright. Thats all I remember. When I woke up from surgery, the Dr. came in to check on me. He told me I was combative during surgery. It never bothered me since I felt no pain. If there had been pain….I am sure my story would be different.

I’d like someone out there– Dr. Manny would be great– to offer an explanation as to why this phenomenon of multiple extra limbs/ faces/ etc. happens so often in third-world countries. My understanding is that it is usually two fetuses that fuse together early in gestation–? Why don’t we see it here in the U.S.? What causes it? Do risk factors include poor nutrition?

RE: Baby With Two Faces

I believe strongly that gods do not need help from the government so if the baby’s parents are requesting help from the government then it is an indication that this little baby needs the parents to make the right decision by seeking some serious medical help. Make no mistake about it. It is the parents responsibility to help this child fit into society by making the right decision to seek for medical help if they are planing to take this baby to school and expect that people will treat this child as a human being and not a god

RE: Baby With Two Faces

To answer Patrick, Kali is sometimes depicted as having 2 faces, Compassionate Mother/Warrior Destructor. Lakshmi is sometimes shown with multiple faces as well.

I’ll Just say that in a country that doesn’t value women as highly as men, and where they grow up poor & many cannot marry due to insufficient doweries, and with the sad possibility that, unlike the child Lakshmi, born with multiple limbs, chances are that this baby’s condition might not be alleviated by amputation (especially if both sides of her face are functional or have seperate brain function to some degree) I would hope that most people saw this child as a fortunate, divine, beautiful being, then to shun her as a freak, or leave her to die, or not show her love or affection.

If this “affliction” had to happen, and if it’s not reversable, then I am glad it happened in a place that will look on her as a Goddess personified, help her family, and hold her in high esteem rather then to treat her like a sad, poor, unfortunate oddity.

I wish them all well.

Re: Anesthesia Awareness

Mark Rosen, a senior anesthesiologist and vice chairman of anesthesiology at the University of California San Francisco Children’s Hospital, who had himself suffered the rare experience of anesthesia awareness, states that he applauds the Avidan study for “convincingly revealing the BIS monitor for what it is - unreliable for clinical practice”. Avidan himself states objectively, and clearly with no subjective agenda or personal axe to grind “larger, follow-up studies need to be done to replicate or refute these findings”.

Surely, the least the manufacturers and promoters of the BIS equipment should do is to offer the Avidan team the same professional courtesy with which their own (Be Aware) study was treated by the Avidan team. They should refrain from emotive and judgemental responses, pending conclusions from the promised larger follow-up studies. These, we hope will ultimately arrive at the scientifically and statistically most valid conclusion for the good of those who ultimately count - the patients!

If she had been born in Medieval Europe or 17th century America she would have been considered the Devil’s spawn. RE: ANESTHESIA AWARENESS

Unfortunately your doctor is somewhat naive. I worked in pharmaceutical diversion with the Cincinnati PD and that is a perfect example of what happens when the anesthesiologist is stealing the medication and undermedicating the patient. This is too uncommon and many times goes undetected for years. Medical personnel stealing patients drugs is one of the most under-reported crimes and very hard to detect. Most police departments don’t even have a pharmaceutical investigator. Our department used to arrest a medical official (doctor, nurse, anesthesiologist, etc.) once every five days.

RE: ANESTHESIA AWARENESS

I too have had this awful experience. I had eye surgery on both eyes with local anesthetic. It was supposed to be painless. The first surgery was. The second one was hell on earth. I felt like they were sewing on my eye with fish hooks. The agony went on for about a half hour and even though I was essentially awake and begging them to stop, they wouldn’t until they were done. I’m now so petrified of surgery I’d rather die first before I’d submit to any. I have post traumatic stress symdrome, totally untreated. I’m on many medicines and have no idea if they interacted with the anesthesia or not. No one seems to care one way or the other what happens to us. We’re guinea pigs. I also found out later the surgery, which was meant to put drainage holes in my eyes due to glaucoma, was totally unecessary and a waste of time. I’m left like this for no reason at all. I’m very bitter and trying to resolve this on my own. Thanks for listening.

In this day and age, where HERE, this baby would be looked at as having a “horrible birth defect” and treated, at best, like some “poor” unfortunate, and at worst like a freak by people less “ignorant”, Thank HER Gods that she was born in India where she is being treated as a divinity incarnate, as being a sign of good fortune, and her family is being asked for blessings!

I think, if this can’t be surgically helped, that she was born in a far better place, with a far better attitude, then if she had been born in our enlightened society that would rather treat her as subhuman rather then superhuman.

She’s where she’s needed, wanted, & loved by many, how can that possibly make her poor or those who love her ignorant?

RE: Baby With Two Faces

I think the child is born with a deformity that needs to be addressed and be treated as soon as possible.
I know that there are excellent Medical Doctors in India to do the job.
The parents of the child need to communicate and put pressure on the local and national Health Institutions to help the new born to get the interventions needed.

RE: Baby With Two Faces

This is some weird stuff. I’ve never heard of a baby born with 2 faces. I’ve heard of conjoined twins. But never this. Maybe she is a blessing from God. Of maybe it’s just a deformality that people are born with every now and then. I don’t know. What did the mother eat when she was pregnant with the girl? Did she pick on someone else’s child when she was pregnant? I don’t know. Or maybe it’s some kind of sick curse. Or, Maybe she’s some kind of goddess or something.

Comment by mcitim

If this little girl is a reincarnated god, why would her parents be concerned over medical treatments? If she truly is a god, would she have medical problems that humans would have the audacity to try to remedy? Its one or the other - either she is a human who has been born with extensive birth analomies, or she is a god. If whe is human, then she deserves no worship. If she is a god, then she needs no help.
