OKC Diet: Slimming Fat City

Oklahoma City is overweight! Recently, OKC was listed as one of America’s Fattest Cities by Men’s Fitness Magazine, click here to read the article. But Mayor Mick Cornett doesn’t like this dubious distinction, and has challenged his city to lose a million pounds.

I congratulate the mayor on addressing the problem and realizing something needs to be done. The population of OKC is 506,000. With a 1 Million Pound Challenge, that basically dares everyone to lose two pounds.

In a world where obesity is rampant, I don’t see how this is a big enough step. More media hype than anything.

However, anything that gets people out and motivated to do exercise is OK in my book.

I live in Oklahoma City and I’m very proud of what Mayor Cornett is trying to acheive. If even one person loses enough weight to be healthy, well then it was worth it. I think the one million pounds thing is a great challenge…probably won’t get close but it’s a nice attention-grabbing number to get people signed up.
