A French woman with a disfiguring nasal tumor, which has taken her ability to smell, taste and see, begged a court Monday to allow her doctor to help her die. The court said no. Click here for more on this story.

Let the woman die with dignity. We wouldn’t make an animal suffer like this. Give her whatever she asks for.
I believe that God decides when it’s your time to come home. If he’s allowing you to remain on this earth, then he has a plan for you and there is a reason. Instead of appealing to a court, try appealing to him for guidance and an end to your suffering. Things could work out better than you think.
If we live in free democratic society and we are supposed to be all free men then if someone wants to end their life because of health problems they should have the right to end it. The government or the doctors don’t have to do it they just can give this lady the pill and she could take it anytime she would want to.I think the government, the courts the religious right and do gooders are puting their nose in where it doesn’t belong. I feel that if I was born in a free country and it is my body not the government and nobody elses it is my life my soul my body I should be able to do with it what I want as long as I don’t hurt anyone else
The question isn’t whether she has the “right to die” or not, it’s whether we should allow doctors to murder her. If she wants to kill herself she can go right ahead.
Everybody has the right to die when they want no matter what the court says. If they say no then you just have to find another way to go about it. In reality no one can stop anyone from dying.
I did a report on physician assisted suicide in the 9th grade, i am now in the 11th grade. But the fact that they deny a woman her right to die in the light of a disfiguring tumor that has left her virtualy vegetative is pretty messed up. I mean whose life is it anyway?
We will never be civilized until we have control over our own bodies. How inhumane not to let this woman’s doctor help end her suffering. Humans need rights to equal animal’s rights. Who are these people who sentence this woman to a horrible, long death. Terrible, terrible, terrible.
It is easy to criticize her because we are not in her shoes. I say that she has the right to die in a painless manner. Her life must be absolute HELL. Sooner or later, she will try to kill herself, and if those attempts do not work, she will end up maimed. Society will spend tons of money trying to save her; those resources could be used to save people who want to live. Give her whatever she needs for a painless death. It is only murder if a person is killed against his or her will! As for God, He should not be torturing this woman before He kills her. This is His “plan”? How about giving such a horrible illness to someone like Bin Laden or Hugo Chavez, or to the many men who have molested and murdered children?
Sheryl - How nice for you that you believe in a god. Not everyone does. I guess god had plans for the prisoners in Nazi Germany too. Good that they stayed alive long enough to be brutally murdered by the Nazi’s.
Kyle, as far as her right to die vs. allowing doctors to kill her, it’s a moot point. Suicide is illegal. If she tries to kill herself (if she is able) and fails, she will be put under surveillance 24/7 to insure she doesn’t try again. Kind of like torture, except instead of administering pain, the “government” (for lack of better term) refuses to let the pain be taken away. We are all ants, and the more ants are around, the better off the queen is. You are not free to choose your own fate, no matter how logical/sensical your reasons may be. The government has the ultimate say. Bow down and enjoy the ride.
She is more than welcome to end her own life if she sadly must. However, it is no business of the government. If doctors are prohibited, there is nothing stopping self demise.
Kyle - you’ve shown your compasion quite clearly. Hopefully you will be in the same boat one day and won’t have to suffer a botched, painful suicide but will have a doctor humanely put you out of your misery - which is huge.
She has three kids….I am sure they love her very much and want her in their lives.
I guess I don’t understand why she doesn’t just kill herself if she wants to die that bad. Take yourself out and save time and money.
Here is a link to a story showing her picture. You may want to look at this before your moralize one way or the other.

I believe that no person has the right to end his or her own life just as a person does not have the right to end another persons life. All life is sacred. I pity the woman she has a hard burden. She also has three children. Even though she is in pain is it better for her children to be without thier mother?
There is no conceivable reason for this person to even have to ask what she can do with her own life. When no physical harm will come from this decision of hers to anyone else what would be so powerful as to override a persons decision about their own life? Another person feeling the need to impose their moral character and exorcise their position of power thats who.
Give me a break….
I am utterly astounded that France, or any country, would deny this woman’s request. We are permitted to have animals “put down” when they are suffering, and we will not do this for a human being. This is sheer idiocy, in the 21st Century. When anyone is ravaged by disease and distorted to the level of being grotesque, it is beyond comprehension that they are forced to this level of existence. Shame on all of us for this lack of compassion! I am fast arriving at the conclusion that we do not have any intelligent people in this world.
No one is denying her right to die, just the premise that a doctor should do it for her. There is no limit to the dangers of over the counter drugs she could get here hands on if she has no access to perscription medication. She must know someone who has a perscription for blood pressure medication. Why drag a third party into it?
Everyone can kill themselves. The laws are only designed to stop people from killing each other. How did killing each other become a good thing? Since some of us believe we have a right to decide how we die, with what machinery, at what time, by whose hands, and who should pay for it, I’d like to state I’m in the mood for a pastrami sandwhich on rye, toasted and with the crusts cut off, a dill pickle, with a coca-cola. Would one of the ultra-liberals please fight for my right to have someone make that for me, pay for it, and bring it to my chair. Better yet, make it and bring it to me yourself.
They should try to find a doctor who knows the best pain killing techniques for this lady until she passes away. We should also pray that that will happen. Doctors should be givers of life and should never been takers of life. If she chooses to kill herself no one can stop her, but we have no right to make murderers of physicians. Where would it end??? Many people who are suffering in an accident want to be killed, but we wisely do not allow that. We give them strong pain killers and most live on and are healed.
Besides getting a second opinion and a better doctor for this woman, the people around her, both children and adults, should be giving this woman more love and compassion. It amazes me that in the so-called advanced nations people still make fun of the so-called handicapped and deformed. This woman does not really want to die. She just wants to be treated as a normal person and her pain relieved.
My grandmother told me, “Never make fun of the handicapped. There but for the grace of god go you.” We should all remember that and teach our children the same. People should not have to be hidden away.
