Birth Control Pills For Men?

The birth control pill has been around since the 1960s… and continues to be the most popular and effective method of birth control today with over 12-million American women using it daily. But now men might get the opportunity to do some pill popping of their own. New research looks into hormonal contraception for men.

What do you think? Should men start taking this form of contraception if it becomes available?

Both Testosterone and Progesterone are found in Men. However Progestin and methyltestosterone is not. Both synthetic drugs have harmful and untested long term effects. Methyltestosterone is the only form available in tablet form (all other forms are infected or dermally applied). Progestin is most commonly collected and made from Pregnant Mare urine. The side effects of both of these unnatural drugs in men would include: breast tenderness and growth, cancer, liver disorders, birth defects and emotional disorders to name a few. Would any man put up with these symptoms? And what loving wife would want to see her husband feeling this way?
There is a rush to get a working form of male contraception due to the recent studies showing that synthetic hormones in woman are dangerous. And because woman are sick and tired of being sick and bearing all the burden of the childbearing decision.
With so many childhood disorders with many possible causes (SIDS, Autism, etc…) Is it a really good idea to add more mutagenic factors to our gene pool?
As it stands today, the safest forms of birth control are still natural forms: rhythm method, lambskin condoms, and abstinence. None of these forms carry any risks or side effects other than pregnancy. If you are not ready for the responsibility of raising a child, you are not ready to have sex! I know that male contraception is the ultimate woman’s liberation but it is no substitute for love, caring and communication.

Progesterone is also naturally occurring in men, not just women!!! That was a very misleading thing to include in the article; it will reinforce ignorant ideas that taking such a medication will make men “feminine.”

Also, Dr. Dupree: I am surprised that you, as a medical professional, would recommend the rhythm method. It is a very unreliable and profoundly ill thought out method. Why don’t you recommend something actually based in knowledge of human biological processes, like the fertility awareness method?

Finally, a male pill………this will not be a ‘woman’s liberation’…..it will be the biggest men’s liberation in centuries, as men will be in control of the chioce to aviod unwanted pregnancies. As for any possible side risks of a male pill…….most all perscription medications come with a long list of POSSIBLE side risks. Bottom line for most men is that if a male pill is FDA approved, those men who want birth control will use it, and take control of their future family planning needs. It’s about time men can finally have control of this family planning decision for their lives. If a couple decides not to use abstinence, a man should have the same choice as a woman, and have a male pill as a choice for birth control. It’s about time this playing field is leveled out.
