A Fat Belly May Increase Your Risk for Dementia
Having a big belly in your 40s can boost your risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia decades later, a new study suggests.
While previous research has found evidence that obesity in middle age raises the chances of developing dementia later, the new work found a separate risk from storing a lot of fat in the abdomen. Even people who weren’t overweight were susceptible.

REALLY?!? Everyone that I knew who had dementia had been slender all of their lives. Just another “finding” from the fat police, who, by the way, think everyone should live on veggies. Only organic, of course.
This “study” doesn’t prove anything. Association is not causation. Did these “researchers” stop to think that the biological processes leading to Alzheimer’s might also cause high belly fat or other physical symptoms? This is just another example of “Junk Science”.
I agree. More sound bite junk science. Watch for the prevalence of the new media favorite term: “Suggests”
The word “Suggests” is a weasel word. It means nothing; and even less in the gray arena of POP SCIENCE.
Anecdotally, everyone I ever knew who was sharp well into their 80s had quite the jolly gut.
This finding was brought to you by the same folks on the “trans-fat” crusade. Contrary to popular belief, I’ll bet the Orwellian conspiracists never thought the Life Police State would come from the left.
