The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers not to purchase or consume Total Body Formula in the flavors of Tropical Orange and Peach Nectar, or Total Body Mega Formula in the Orange/Tangerine flavor. The liquid dietary supplement products may cause severe adverse reactions, including significant hair loss, muscle cramps, diarrhea, joint pain and fatigue.

Wow!! Amazing - where is the front page news about people who are killed from over doses of Kemo - where is the front page news about people over 65 who fall and fracture hips and then die of complications because their MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL has them over medicated and they are unbalanced.

Lets see - 23 people lost some hair and got leg cramps - a bad batch of a supplement for sure - the FDA is a legal mafia - and people need to be educated about what is really causing the illness and birth defects in America. Why is it that our MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS can’t seem to figure it out? America has the highest tech - highest priced medical system in the world and we have the HIGHEST RATE of BIRTH DEFECTS in THE ENTIRE WORLD. Exactly what is wrong with this picture?

Not to try to offend at all “me” - but 1. if you believe you can get everything you need by “eating sensibly” you have not been paying attention to what is happening in the world. We have depleted our soils (wait that was over 60 years ago ~ they must be completely depleted by now) - and plants don’t make minerals - so if your not growing your own - and treating your soil to all 90 vitamin, minerals and trace minerals - you not going to prosper.

and exercising - you want people to rid thier bodies of minerals they are not replacing? I am confused ~ are you saying you want people to die younger? That is what it sounds like and the power drink - is made for people who exercise and want to replace the minerals and trace minerals they are loosing when the work up that sweat

“mass accidental suicides”. thats scary. This year I’m planting a garden and canning my stuff if I have to get out there with a pick and shovel.

When they said you’d lose weight, we didn’t know they meant ten pounds of hair. Don’t these people test their products?

To Southern Baptist: you are not correct about the soil being depleted so that we can’t get nutrients any longer from the plants. If the nutrients were not in the soil, the plant wouldn’t be able to grow properly in the first place. Although some nutrients may become lessened by growing some crops repeatedly, they are replaced through practices such as fertilization and crop rotation.

But you are right that people should get their nutrition from eating food when possible. Some studies have indicated that it might not be healthy to get your vitamins from pills.

I have used Total Body for about ten years. Purchased a bottle of it about the 12 th of this month. I suffered all the symtoms mentioned. Two trips to ER and they could not find any problem with blood, urine, Xrays, Cat Scans ect. I am still totaly disabled, can’t walk, lost most of my hair, very weak, severe leg and body cramps.

Got a call from where I purchased it Thursday the 27 th and was refered to Neurology for a spinal tap. Won’t know the results until Monday.

The main point is the ER at all the hostpitals need to be notified because they have no clue whats wrong by the tests they preform. We did tell our ER here in Fort Walton about the Selenium poisening.

I too have used Total Body for years with no adverse reactions. I started losing my hair in clumps a week ago. I have have had all the symptoms too. My doctors were very confused and took blood and sent me to a dermatologist for good measure . I just happened on the information on Fox yesterday. I am so grateful they reported it. It has saved me from alot more suffering. I checked the lot number on my 32 oz. bottle and lo and behold it was the cotaminated one. I have a full one I am planning on taking back to the vitamin store I bought it from and give them this information and to my doctor. The Total Body Formula website lists the lot numbers that are in question.

I have checked selenium poisining and it said to drink more fluids to get it out of your system. Also it said to avoid foods that contain selenium, such as tuna, while affected by the overdose. I can attest to getting much sicker after eating tuna, I just didn’t know why until now.

I wonder just how many people are affected. The report said 23 but there has to be more as there are two on this blog so far, Jimmy B Hill and me. This has been a very miserable, painful, and emotional experience that has affected all aspects of my life and I would not wish this on anyone.

I live in GA.

To Jimmy B Hill:

What was the neuro looking for in the spinal tap? Did your doctor reccomend it or the store? Please post your results if you will. I am very curious if I would need one too. Thanks. I’ll pray for you.

This product is a multi-vitamin NOT a weight loss product. A dietary supplement is something that completes or makes an addition to what you eat. People usually DO NOT get all the nutrients and vitamins from food that the body needs. Many people are deficient in vitamins and minerals if they would get them checked as I have.

God bless!!

I filed a class action complaint Thursday in the Circuit Court of Washington County, Florida, on behalf of people who took the Total Body Formula. I had been working on the case for about 10 days before the FDA’s announcement. Some of the people have horror stories. Thank you for disseminating the word nationwide. You probably alerted many people who would otherwise not have known what was causing severe muscle cramps, profound hair loss, etc.

We are a husband and wife who have remained very healthy into our retirement years by supplementing our diet with multivitamins. This is recommended, I think, for seniors. The Total Body Liquid Vitamins were a wonderful addition to our life, until our terrifying horror story began mid-February. For this company to pump their product full of poison, and then cover it up, has brought devastation to our lives. Physically, we are just not recovering like we had hoped. The human body cannot handle a massive dose of poison without dire and awful results. Losing our hair is only the outward manifestation. Losing our wonderful health and vibrance is devastating.

In my book, Breaking the Silence on Women’s Hair Loss, I emphasize the importance of assessing all drugs, herbs, vitamins etc people are taking and see if hair loss is experienced within six months or more of the start of taking them. This latest news item points out how important it is to let your physician know when your hair loss started as well as what you are taking.

Hopefully, and most likely, once people stop taking Total Body, their hair will be restored within six months to a year as the hair growth cycle resumes. This will be an interesting case to watch. I’d love to hear from people who have experienced hair loss with this product and how they are doing. You can write to me at choff@herloss.org.

FDA released their findings yesterday of “hazardous levels” of selenium in this product:

“samples contain extremely high levels of selenium–up to 40,800 micrograms per recommended serving, or more than 200 times the amount of selenium per serving (i.e., 200 micrograms) indicated on the labels of the products.”

First of all to the people yammering on about this being a weight loss thing, and being responsible and eating right and making fun of sick people, get your facts straight. My mother is a very sensible and healthy person in her early 70s. She has exercised, eaten right her entire life and doesn’t buy into fads. She has been taking Total Body vitamins for several years. A month ago she started experiencing all the symptoms stated in the article and more. She sought out advice and help from her G.P. and from a gastroenterologist. So far she has found very little information or help. She was told to drink distilled water and exercise. Since she drinks filtered water already and is too sick to exercise this really hasn’t helped. If anyone knows of a doctor or clinic dealing successfully with mineral detoxification the info would be appreciated. To those suffering my thoughts are with you. This is not an easy situation to deal with.
