It will take years for this procedure to be approved in the US. The cost is prohibitive, but the results are natural breast tissue. Makes sense to me. The amount of Botox(tm) that would need to be injected into the pectoralis muscle in order to allow the shoulder girdle to shift backwards would be huge. Given the current prices for Botox(tm), this would most likely be cost prohibitive and more expensive than a traditional breast augmentation. Knowing that the Botox(tm) injection would need to be repeated every few months would also likely discourage many prospective patients. Filler agent injection such as Macrolane(tm) may have its own set of benefits, but the same concerns with expense and "non-permanent" results certainly exist. Injecting the breast with the patient's own fat is one possible filler technique that may minimize some of these issues. Until adequate studies have been completed here in the U.S., patients should be wary of these other options. Women considering breast augmentation would be well-served to seek out the opinion of a board-certified plastic surgeon. The traditional means of augmenting the breast volume with either a saline or silicone filled breast implant is still the most reliable, reproducible, and long-lasting method available. It is definitely the gold standard by which all other methods must be judged. The majority of women will be much more pleased with this technique.
