My son had surgery and radiation at the age of 2 years old. This young boy is not too young for radation. My son’s tumor was on his cerebellum. I am not sure why this hospital is telling this mother these things. She might want a second opinion or she had decided that the surgery and radiation is too dangerous not hte doctors. I know of a baby that had radiation.
I, too, don’t know why they are saying that the child is too young for radiation. My daughter was 4 yrs old and had a head and neck tumor (rhabdomyosarcoma), 22 years ago. It extended as far back to the base of her brain and as far front as her optic nerve. I would suggest a 2nd opinion, definitely! When fighting a deadly disease, you must ALWAYS be more aggressive than the disease! Get that second opinion! Every day you wait that tumor is continuing to grow! My prayers are with you!
The kid gets it, but the mom doesn’t get that the kid gets it, and keeps trying to tippy-toe around the issue.
That’s even more sad than the kid having cancer.
I hope he gets better…
I’m 33 and just diagnosed with stomach cancer. This little boys courage is so uplifting to me. After reading this I already feel stronger about my own situation. God bless and protect this little boy and his family, it’s a long rough road.
There is a group banding together to research tumors in children and ways to treat.
Why isn’t this little guy at St. Jude’s? It sounds like the place he’s being “treated” doesn’t have the expertise needed to get this little guy well. Too YOUNG for chemo? A six year old from my community just completed (quite successfully, I might add) chemo treatments for cancer. She was treated and healed at St. Jude’s. I hope it’s not a case of a doctor refusing to refer the child to someone better qualified. The mom should really get a second opinion and keep at them until she finds someone that can treat her son. Prayers and blessings to them both.
Please contact the Burzynski Clinic in Houston, Tx. Dr. Burzynski has had tremendous success in treating and curing Astrocytoma brain tumors. His web address is: burzynskiclinic.com and tele# is: 713-335-5697. There is also a patient advocate group with a web site: burzynskipatientgroup.org. This site has many testimonials from patients who have had great success with this treatment. Good luck!
I don’t understand the statement “too young for radiation”. My son was diagnosed at age 6 with a brain tumor and underwent brain surgery and radiation treatments. He will graduate college in May.
He has done well.
Please….you may want to contact Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski in Houston, TX 713-335-5697 as he has had some very good luck with some forms of brain cancer. Please at least talk to him before your son becomes any sicker. I know personally of someone who has been seeing this doctor for breast cancer for over 10 years and is cancer free and has not been sick one day since her original diagnosis. Good luck.
Not sure who said an 8 year old is too young for radiation because it is done on infants that have AT/RT malignant brain tumors everyday. I suggest a 2nd opinion.
Too young for radiation? This reporter needs to check his facts. Makes for a sad story though.
I know a young girl who had a tumor on her brainstem. She was told by two of the top children’s hospitals in the US that it could not be removed and she would die. Her parents refused to give up and finally found a surgeon. He removed 70% of her “inoperable” tumor. She was making great strides in rehab and was expected to walk again. Until they found the surgeon, she had been on chemo and radiation for almost a year. They damaged her body so much. She ended up dying because of the medicine that was supposed to help her. Please don’t let that happen to this little boy. Would the moderator please give this name to this mother? She deserves to give her son a fighting chance! Maybe this doctor will review her child’s records and be able to help. I was told by this young lady’s parents that you never stop getting second opinions when your child’s life is on the line. Dr. Michael Edwards, the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.
A little girl from my church went through treatments for Leukemia starting when she was only 18 months old. She is now 9 and perfectly healthy. A lot of people prayed for her and the prayers were answered. May God bless you with strength and healing.
my daughter has been treated for a brain tumor 2x that grew on the stem cell. During the 2nd course of treatment she received radiation - at about the age of 4. - she has a few motor skill issues — not serious and definitely better than the alternative
I think these folks need to get a 2nd opinion!!!
Shands in Gainesville FL has a wonderful neuro-surgical depart & radiology.
