Dangerous Animal Virus?

The government is likely to move its research on one of the most contagious animal diseases from an isolated island laboratory to the U.S. mainland near herds of livestock, raising concerns about a catastrophic outbreak.

What do you think about this move?

As a researcher of animal-to-human viruses, I have this to add:

Its unfortunate so much discussion about the research facilties is tagged to defense and security. Its really a public health issue because various animal-to-human diseases already cause harm to the US mainland, so its necessary to continue to research these diseases with all the tools we have. A serious infectious disease research facility focused on these diseases is the only way to combat them. We cant leave it to academic research using heavily modified or surrogate disease models because when good results are returned from those models, the corporate folks dont take them as seriously, thus its harder to get potential cures or treatments to market.

Comment by Alex

This is simply perposterous. How this can even be entertained is beyond comprehension let alone actually considering it. The reasons for moving the facility are in no way even comparable to the damage and cost associated with an outbreak. Get your collective heads out of the sand.

Comment by Connie Martinez

I’m against moving the facility out of Plum Island.
Why did the government even consider this idea to begin with?
The article did not explain that enough. Is it in need of modernization? So, spend the money used to find other sites and modernize it.

The risk is far to great to place the facility on the mainland. The excercise that the government ran proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt.
I don’t care how careful someone is, the risk of exposure and the horrible consequences is too great. If the government truly has the best interests of its people at heart, they wouldn’t, shouldn’t consider it.

So it’s not enough that Bush the dictator has ruined the United States for what it once was but he wants everyone dead…

Reminds me of that “little punk” who used to start bar fights, leaving his friends to finish the job while he cowers in the parking lot, then tells all of his other friends about the bar fight they were in……..someone bitchslap this little man….

Comment by caffeine

Is anyone going to stop this Dictator? Will the UN press charges of Crimes Against Humanity on him? What a weak minded little man.

Comment by Garrett

What are they thinking. In what way is this a good idea? Bring it to the mainland…we’re bound to have an outbreak at some point.

Comment by Mark

Folks,

Write or Email your local Congressman & Senators. Let them know how you feel about this
very dangerous move.
The more complaints they receive the more they’ll have to sit up and listen, then take action.
They do what they want or need to do because they think the American public is “too busy” with their own lives to care.
People it’s time to start taking notice. WE DO have a say in what our goverment does that affects our lives.

Comment by teresa

Keep US animals health and safe to be able to eat, with out people assoc. with death of meats. It is really simple, stop chemical feeding and all the other insane things they do to get more meat on the animal. Do what farmers did 50 years, live on the land. so people do not die from sloppy meat plants.

Comment by Brian

The Bush administration is once again showing symptoms of smoking crack. The lab should remain on an issolated island and not be brought to the mainland. Could the lab be maintained on a US military base in Cuba? The lab would be close to the US mainland and if there is an accident, nothing will be lost.

Comment by Anne Tanner

This is just another irresponsible move on the part of the present administration, and I’m a Republican, btw. What happened to common sense?

Comment by John Fog

This story reminds me of what readers must have heard about the Titanic, “It’s the ship that can’t sink!” We all know how that ended, through a tragic series of events the ship was sunk. It wasn’t foreseen, it wasn’t planned for, and it wasn’t even thought to be possible, just like with this lab. I oppose moving this lab to a new location near cattle herds because accidents happen, we are human and are capable of erring. Accidents happen and we need to plan for if/when they happen, and putting the lab next to hundreds of thousands of cattle is not good planning! Our leaders need to be humble enough to accept that an accident CAN (not necessarily WILL) happen and to implement procedures to protect the nation if they do. Thank you.

Comment by Gary

I have no problem with the move, it should save the tax payers money. I guess no one has ever heard of the CDC here in Atlanta. There are many CDC buildings here that not only contain some of the worlds most horrible viruses, but also is in down town Atlanta. This is not a big issue to those of us with a little common sence and understanding of reserch. The easier the access to the facility, the easier you can get top researchers to work and the longer thay can work on finding a cure. Leave it to the Demorcrats to make this an issue. Have they ever been to one of the CDC buildings??? More worried about animals than the human population? Just one more example of Bush bashing from the left, along with a true nonunderstanding of what it is they complain about or stick their nose into. I have been into these research fasilities….that’s why I’m not concerned about this!

Comment by Silvara

This is the most ridiculous rigmarole since the last idiotic decision made by the powers who control this country!!! I cannot imagine that this is even being discussed…is our government ovetly trying to kill us all? How in the name of all things that make common sense can this even be discussed much less become a reality.

stupid stupid stupid stupid - I’ve said to myself more times than what’s been typed. Stupid to move to maninland.
stupid stupid….

Comment by mike

This is another fine example of the Bush administration and the government really trying to stick it to the American people. Does anyone know if Bush or his goones own any livestock? I am sure that this is a ploy by the Bush administration to sky rocket cattle prices in the future to make himself and his goones even more money. Just as they have done with this war thats going on now. I think this is the most rediculous idea i have ever heard, to bring this very dangerous disease to the mainland. There will without a doubt be an instance that there is an “accidental” release of this virus if it is brought to the mainland. Which will result in the slaughter of possibly millions of cattle and other animals. Once again, I am sure that the Bush administration has a definite way to get even more wealthy from a catastrophic event such as the one that will come out of bringing this deadly disease to the mainland. There is no other reason why anyone in their right mind would even consider bringing such an awful disease to possibly harm the rest of the cattle industry.

Comment by Kari

Does anyone in their right mind trust our government with our safety? Time and time again, our government has shown an amazing level of incompetence in protecting us from anything. Even if our safety level has improved, is it really worth a chance considering what’s at stake?

Comment by Jim

What are they thinking? Leave the lab where it is at, in a place that could be easily contained if something got out.

Comment by Darrell

Why? Why are they moving this from an isolated island to states? I’m still not following this. Has anyone heard any specifics on why this is being done?

Comment by Bill Stroud

Once again, we are asked to accept fear as a valid reason for inaction. Once again Congress has latched onto a non-event instead of securing our borders, shoring up Social Security, or improving public education. Yep, those are way too tough. Instead, Congress investigates baseball players and whether or not we should move a lab. Way to go Congress!!!

Comment by M Marshall

I always think that I have seen the worst of the worst ideas and then we go and drop the bar one more level. This is the most outrageous thing I have heard of in a very long time. As a former resident of Kansas, I am going to take it upon myself to inform every person I know about this idea and the potential risk involved. Let’s not just share our ideas in a forum online…GET THE WORD OUT to everyone who will listen!!! This has consequences too devastating to even capture in a fictional government (controlled!) exercise. GET TALKING and STOP THIS MADNESS!

Comment by Steve

Have they forgot why the cattle are kept on an isolated island in the first place? Cattle have to be kept outside where they will come into contact with other animals that can carry the virus into the US herds. At least on an island the only transport that you have to worry about are the researchers that travel back and forth. On the mainland there are other wild animals that will pass through this facility of there own free will. You simply can’t keep them out.

This is not a real bright idea.

Comment by Gerard Armijo

This is a very irresposible move on the governments part. Why would they even consider this? The lab was put on that Island to isolate these diseases for research in the first place, so what Idoit decided moving it closer to a disaster situation would be a good Idea. I think this move should be stopped and whoever is behind this should be relocated to a deserted Island also.

Comment by James

Is it me… or is that like storing gasoline near an open flame??? Another ingenious move by our leader.

Comment by Chris

All I can say is oh how typical. They will have this research moved to the mainland then it will “accidentally” be released, and much life stock will die in the process, which will then cause food shortages not unlike those in Egypt and India. The Bush Administration can then say “Oh we’re so stupid”, and the masses will believe it. Watch carefully, and I’m sure you’ll see a classic example of the Hegalian Dialectic.

Problem - Diease escapes/wipes out life stock/causes food shortages
Reaction - Panic/worry/anger over rising prices
Solution - Manditory animal chipping that the Bush Administration is trying to force on farmers. If things get really bad with food riots etc. Possible martial law.

The Powers That Be Need To Know We Aren’t Going To Swallow Their Crap Any Longer! Once one figures out the Modus Operandi, it all just so obvious.

Conspiracy Theory … HAH! Conspiracy Fact!

Do not point the finger at the President for every Federal decision made. The President must depend on his advisors to hire knowledgeable staffs. Unfortunately in the area of biological sciences today there seems to be a disconnect between intelligence, common sense and ethical values. One only needs to view the current movie “I Am Legend” to understand the far ranging consequences of the unbridled enthusiasm that exists in the biological sciences community today.

If there are no life threating reasons to bring these bio-labs into populated areas in any part of the world, then they should absolutely be isolated on islands as far from land as possible. And any person, animal or thing that visits those islands should pass through the strictest quarnantine known to mankind. It will be too late to say “I was wrong” after a pandemic has been unleashed on society.

I have studied microbiology both in an academic and a military setting. Please believe me, the potential is extremely real.

Comment by Doug

This is just another way for them to distroy another American industry, like the super highway from Mexico to Canada will distroy the shipping industry, like the free trade distroyed the production industry. If they keep us poor, they can keep us dependent and easier to control!

Comment by J.P.

OH GOOD! Now maybe Hannibal Lechter will finally consider Plum Island. He’d starve if he was looking for Bush’s brain though…

Comment by Kathy Lockard

Move a dangerous facility to the mainland? I have long thought that the White House occupants were out of touch with reality, now I know they are out of touch with EVERYTHING!

I agree with Connie Martinez that “the article did not explain that enough. If the government truly has the best interests of its people at heart, they wouldn’t, shouldn’t consider it.”

The article said that they ran a excersize on “a simulated outbreak of the disease — part of an earlier U.S. government exercise called “Crimson Sky” — ended with fictional riots in the streets after the simulation’s National Guardsmen were ordered to kill tens of millions of farm animals, so many that troops ran out of bullets. In the exercise, the government said it would have been forced to dig a ditch in Kansas 25 miles long to bury carcasses. In the simulation, protests broke out in some cities amid food shortages.

“It was a mess,” said Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., who portrayed the president in the 2002 exercise. Now, like other lawmakers from the states under consideration, Roberts supports moving the government’s new lab to his state. Manhattan, Kan., is one of five mainland locations under consideration. “It will mean jobs” and spur research and development, he says.”

This just begs the question, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO RISK THIS TYPE OF FACILITY IN YOUR STATE?

Comment by Brenda C.

What actually do they do at the lab? Are the livestock given a disease on purpose for research????
thats abuse of the worst kind and should be stopped. Of course these poor animals should not be moved to the mainland to make other animals sick and maybe humans too. Why are they moving them to the mainland anyway?

Comment by Brian

Wow. I really supported George a while ago, but as a republican I am embarrassed. This country really seems hell bent on doing itself in. It looks like it would be a better move to go to a third world country at this point…they get all the help anyway.

Comment by jep, Kansas USA

Let’s not put a bio-lab studying animal viruses in the middle of an agricultural state.

This makes no sense to me. Senator Roberts is usually really on the ball, but I think this idea is just flirting with disaster. The state of Kansas has economic problems and is trying to establish a strong bio-sciences industry. The study of hoof-and-mouth disease should be kept well-away from our stockyards.

Plum Island sounds like a good place to leave that lab.

Comment by Justin M.

I sincerely believe that secession is the only way the people can restore a government by and for the people. Texas has all the resources and economic power to do so. For the love of God, unite in the cause of liberty, self government, and constitutional principle.

This is insane. Where’s the common sense? If we don’t get control over our government soon, I just might move to Mexico.

Comment by Gary

I am legand??? Its a movie???? A Hollywood movie!!!! The CDC is on the main land, ALL the CDC research facilitys, along with things that make hoof and mouth seem safe are on the main land. Your neighborhood hospitals have Bio-hazerds along with Radiation….you want them gone too???? How about AIDS and TB patients…want them shipped off too? Common Sence Please…Blame the President for everything…that is what is typical about the comments. I hope it is build in Athens, and I live here.
Once again all I’m hearing is anti-President BS from people that have NO CLUE about the good that a better Lab can do. Guns cause killing as Casinos cause crime, this Lab will be Doom and Gloom…listen to what you preach….Ignorance!

Comment by Kelly Dees

This is crazy! I have raised livestock before and the idea of moving such a lab to the mainland is moving over to being very stupid! I am a republican also but the administration in this case are a bunch of idiots! I own a farm now and am planning getting back into raising animals again, I don’t want such a facility near me and it would be, because I live in Mississippi. I will be writing my congressman and senators about this. Reading this article just pisses me off. Everybody needs to get on this band wagon to stop such a move by the government. We the people do have some say about what goes on in this country if we work together. The facility needs to stay right where it is!

Comment by hugh

This disease has been around in Europe for many decades and it’s not such a huge deal as is being painted by you. For instance, density and proximity of anything that could transmit the disease are much, much higher in Germany (imagine 80 million people population in a space the size of Montana!!) and they have a good handle on it. While there are periodic outbreaks (There is no way to prevent that, even here), the diseased farms seem to quickly become isolated. And I’m sure their research lab is not located on some remote island. Maybe we can learn from them?

Comment by Mamabird

Well, I think we already know not to ask George Bush’s opinion. It’s not rocket science, people. Don’t do it! We don’t need more problems.

Comment by Matt H

This is another example fo how the government wants to control what everyone does. The FDA is raking in BILLIONS of dollars, and now, they’ll use the myth of “public safety” to shut down natural supplementation, tell us exactly what we need and how much to buy. This is a very dangerous time we live in. This is wrong and not acceptable. Soon, green, organic veggies will be sold on the “black market” along with Vitamin C!

Comment by Kelly Dees

This is crazy, I live in Mississippi! They have lost their minds!

Comment by cjacobs

Is the Bush administration on some kind of drugs. why would you want to make it easy for domestic or foreign terrorist to get their hands on some thing that can create chaos to our country. How about you guys stop smoking that crack and start protecting our country by not allowing that reseach center any where near our mainland.Keep it as far away from the mainland as possible. please stop this madness

To all those even CONSIDERING such stupidity by citing the “improved” technics & controls: Does ANYONE remember 2001 and a little thing called ANTHRAX or how about something a little more Recent: Ricin in Nevada?

If We cannot control Our Weapons Grade Chemicals, Just HOW are We going to control these types of “weapons”? This is about the same level of intelligence that is used to justify playing Russian Reulette with automatic weapons thinking You’re safe because of misfires! The RISKS are too great and saying this move will create Jobs as justification is pure insanity because JUST ONE accident would be one too many.

This is the most stupid article I’ve read in a long time. Stop trying to generate news FOX!
The American people are not that stupid! We have Small Pox at two locations in the continental U.S.

Comment by Carolyn Sue Hall

My husband and I are cattle ranchers and are very much against moving that research here to the mainland. We have enough of a struggle making a living with all of the imported beef to risk any outbreak of this insidious disease. What are these people thinking? Are they deliberately trying to break the American rancher?
Recently they allowed the Brazillians to buy out Swift and 5-Rivers making them the largest feed/packing facility in the world, and duh….soon they will be importing Brazillian beef leaving us with another obstacle to making a living at what we love. Ethanol has raised the corn price so we can’t get a decent price now for our calves..it doesn’t make sense to allow another possible disaster for the American cattle rancher.
Thanks for allowing me to respond.

Comment by Lisa

I just sent emails to my state senators and representative about this and how stupid I think it is to even consider. I hope all of you have done the same. We can’t stop this if we don’t complain loudly and often.

Comment by Miguel

The potential financial devastation that would ensue a disaterous outbreak are not worth the risk. Update the existing lab at whatever cost it takes either way it’s hundreds of millions of dollars cheaper than running the risk of an outbreak on U.S. soil.

Comment by David

Crawford, Texas would be a GREAT place to relocate the facility! I can’t tell you how sick and tired I am of this administration. They are breaking the heart of this nation and draining its soul. It is high time for a CHANGE!

Comment by E Mockenhaupt

Has our government gone mad! I respect our president, I believe, he has tried hard to improve on what was handed to him. Coming in as a new president on 911 and handling it the best way he knew how, but this is absolute nuts.
Everyone knows we don’t ‘polute the well for which we drink out of’ and we don’t bring poluted animals into our beloved country.

They are contained now, I feel they should stay where they are. Jobs or no jobs, somethings are just too important.

We are but stewards of this earth, and to bring in tainted beef is completely irresponsible.

Comment by Mark

Read the book Lab 257. Mario M. Cuomo, calls the book, “[A] carefully researched, chilling exposé of a potential catastrophe.” This investigative book written by Michael Christopher Carroll will explain the science behind Plum Island and why moving deadly research to the mainland is foolish. Why should anyone be surprised however with the reckless behavior or decisions that come out of Washington?

Comment by Kimo

I cant imagine moving the research away from the island. This has been an effective means of protecting our country’s animals and all related industries from this horrid disease. Why do we need to risk an out break ? I am very appreciative of all the efforts to investigate and hopfully irradicate foot to mouth disease altogether and am thankful for the researchers and the precautions they make to continue this effort. I dont see, howevewr the benefits of moving the research of this disease from its present location.

Comment by Tiffany

If there is a massive outbreak - which is every bit as likely as a minor one because these places are run by humans who make mistakes - combined with skyrocketing fuel and transportation costs, the cost of food will really be out of control. If you’d like a little preview of the consequences of systemic food shortages, take a look at the recent riots in Haiti, and frost it with more violent storms, power outages and floods (read: loss of farmland due to chemical contamination and sand deposits, more West Nile, dysentery, cholera and other nasty diseases, and homelessness - the mosquitoes alone would be enough to put me over the edge) for good measure.

The financial considerations of locating a lab where it can only be reached by ferry and helicopter doesn’t begin to come close to what it would cost to clean up the mess on the mainland, and its ripple effects wouldn’t be confined to the U.S. - it would aggravate already intolerable situations all over the world.

If you’d like yet another one to grow on, companies like Monsanto have screwed around with our crop seeds to the point of not being able to grow crops from the plants sown. If you buy a pumpkin seed from Monsanto and plant it, you’ll have a few nice pumpkins in the fall, but you won’t be able to take the seeds from those pumpkins and grow more next year because they’ve been genetically engineered not to produce for more than one season. Farmers are also contractually required to pitch any left-over seeds from one year to the next. If anything, such as an earthquake in California, disrupts or disables our transportation system, we’re screwed.

The consistency with which we unnecessarily set ourselves up for catastrophe and heartache for a fast buck and/or a quick fix never ceases to amaze me.

Comment by Crystal

I’m just amazed that this is even being proposed. The only “somewhat reason” for moving to the mainland is that there would be more jobs!!!!??? Here’s a better solution for producing more jobs: Deport illegal aliens! Good grief people..Having the slightest possibility of an outbreak should be reason enough to X the idea immediately.

Comment by dee

And everyone is surprised? Why. You let everyone from everywhere get to the country and now look at the egg on your faces. Sure is something isn’t it.

Comment by Becky L.

As A Farmer and Cattle Producer all I can say is keep it the heck away from my place . We have roofs over our poutry pens to prevent bird flu , even that doesn’t make us rest easy , but we are trying . So why would we condone a Disease research lab anywhere near livestock ?
No matter how careful people try to be accidents happen . Ask the people at Chernnobel (sp?) .

Comment by Michael Stevens

I think the more business’s that we can get the more people that will have jobs.
I really think that some people need to get over themselves —– ……. (Period)
If some of these people think we can make it without job - then they need to go to some other country where they don’t have to work and live the way they want. If all they want is for the Government to take care of them then they need to move to Iran. With this kind of thinking - well that is why the US is falling back on everything.
I am just fed up with wacko’s running and / or ruining everybody’s life in what is suppose to be a free country to do the things we want to do.

Comment by Kim

The proposed move of the research facility on foot and mouth disease (animals) by the Department of Homeland Security is reckless and irresponsible. The catastrophic implications for a viral outbreak of foot and mouth disease could mean mass slaughter of cattle as well as shortened supplies of meat in this country. Look at the data from Great Britain and other places affected by outbreaks of this very contagious disease. If the policy of keeping it on Long Island Sound (off the mainland) worked for 50 years, why change it? Upgrade that facility! It’s common sense.

Comment by miles

What on earth is our government thinking? How are they going to explain to the American people when a accident happens? The government will blame someone else as usual.I feel sorry for the next generation and the one after that if there is one.

“This is just another irresponsible move on the part of the present administration,….”

I am a conservative, though not a party member, and not a big fan of the Bush administration. But if you think a Democrat administration would not do something like this as well to reward state politicians you are living in a fantasy world. What WE wish stopped being a matter of concern to politicians long ago.

In law, defamation (also called vilification, slander, and libel) is the communication of a statement that makes a false claim, expressively stated or implied to be factual, that may harm the reputation of an individual, business, product, group, government or nation. Most jurisdictions allow legal actions, civil and/or criminal, to deter various kinds of defamation and retaliate against groundless criticism. Related to defamation is public disclosure of private facts arises where one person reveals information which is not of public concern, and the release of which would offend a reasonable person.[1] “Unlike libel or slander, truth is not a defense for invasion of privacy.”

The far left spends far too much time posting libelous statements on blogs anytime the words “White House” or “Bush” are involved. If some of those folks spent nearly as much energy in concert, working with their elected officials to make their opposition to plans such as this known, the country would be in a better place. But instead, the juvenile mudslinging and libel continues…

Mental midgets, read this slowly. There are professionals that work daily with worse diseases than H&M. You are alarmist, juvenile, and ignorant. You are many hundreds of times more likely to be harmed while driving a car than something our professional scientists could do. I don’t understand why you are not so out raged over the risk you take every day getting into your car. Maybe because you are stupid.

I’m pretty much done with Dubya. I voted for him in ‘04 because the other option should have been hanged for treason years ago. I hold a certain reverence to the position of President of the United States of America, but Dubya’s presidency is now down near that of Jimmy Carter’s.

This is just another example of his boobery. A deadly animal disease being moved near lifestock is like having a bonfire next to a petroleum refinery. How stupid do you have to be to sign off on something like this.

Caffeine - Dubya is not a dictator, he is our lawfully, democratically elected President. Move to North Korea if you want to see a dictator.

Comment by John Ellis

I understand the reasons for concern, but I think you summed it up with the first 2 words of the article “suspicious Democrats”. The idea of Democrats blaming President Bush is actually getting boring. I honestly believe that if President Bush walked down the street and gave a lolly pop to a poor homeless child, Democrats would find fault and before the end of the six o’clock news, we would hear “suspicious Democrats”.

The Dems just need to get a life. Maybe this explains why congress has an 11% approval rating.

Lets do a run down on what the goverment has turned loose on the American born citizen. Aids, refused to quarantine the carriers, anti biotic resistant Std’s, refused to quarantine carriers Tuberculosis, refused to quarantine carriers. Third world carriers of diseases such as leprosy, they have refused to quarantine.
Allowed foreign produce, which uses human sewage sludge to fertilize. Foreign food stuffs that are contaminated , because most third world countries have no idea what a moral thing is when it comes to health and ethics.
Must not forgett the illegals, epidemic of bedbugs cockroaches, spiders, etc. They have carried into our country, because the goverment refuses to stop the scabs.
Foreigners refer to us as suckers, compassioniately stupid. Easy for the picking.
Does this surprise me , NO! And I will lay odds that it is run by a foreign goverment , or at least employs foreigners , wit h no loyalty to America, Who would love to see the USA fall. A good way would be to kill our entire animal food source, would they care NO!. They would run back to their hidey hole and become a hero in their country, of puke.

Comment by Kathryn Bondoux

I think its rediculous to locate a new facilitiy the virus near other animals. Why can’t we build a new facility on Plum Island? This seems like a perfect place to house this kind of research. There is no reason to take this kind of unnecessry risk unless there is some benefit. Has the government agreed to sell the island to a developer? An island would be more secure than a facility on the mainland. Easy to patrol and with our satellite surviellance capability easier to monitor.

What is the real reason for wanting to abandon such an ideal location??.

Comment by Dr. Jon Aronson

Though the probability is very very low that disease transmission will occur on the mainland, it is without doubt that the chances of transmission on a remote island are less. Why increase the risk to the food supply for a few dollars in perceived benefit?

It is quite frankly insane to move this facility to the mainland.

Comment by USDA APHIS

This story is evidence of the one-sided media coverage, the USDA Animal Plant Health Inspection Service has been trying to get funding for updating the aging infrastructure on plum island for years, the democratic congress has repeatedly denied the funding.

Has anyone read Lab 257 written by Michael Christopher Carroll? There was an outbreak in September 1978 and the U.S. Government covered it up. They said if word got out that it would ruin the U.S. economy. I have chronic Lyme Disease courtesy of Plum Island. I wonder how many more people will get sick and possibly die? Do some research. You will be amazed at what you may learn. Under the Freedom of Information Act a lot of Federal Government documents have been declassified.

Comment by Tannim

Let’s move the lab to Washington DC. That way, if an outbreak occurs, the politicians will be infected and we can finally get rid of them for some sensible leaders!

Comment by Ken Campbell

I’m guessing that this brilliant idea is being brought to you courtesy of the same folks that came up with the TSA! People make mistakes, it’ll be a matter of when we have a serious outbreak because someone was thinking about a problem at home and skipped a decontamination step. Not to be too suspicious but there was a movie some time ago called the Andromeda Strain, yep science fiction, but then so was space travel, underseas travel, air planes, robots, computers………..

Comment by Art Cavazos

What is the president trying to do? Why doesn’t he send that job overseas? Is he trying to hasten the apocalypse or what? That is a dumb move. If the document provided doesn’t answer the questions specifically, it should be blocked.
