I guess it’s only news if someone famous gets it?

Why not make a regular working woman or man (because men can also get Breast Cancer), who is a survivor a spokesperson? My own Mother is a BC survivor and a woman that I respect and look up to for winning the battle!

With her mother having breast cancer twice and then getting herself at such a young age, she really should consider genetic testing to find out if she is BRCA1+ or BRCA2+. I hope her doctor has explained the very real risk to her that she may have a genetic mutation and the importance of testing. If she should test positive, having someone in the public eye make this their cause could certainly help spread the word. Being BRCA1+ or BRCA2+ can raise a person’s risk of breast cancer as high as 87% and ovarian cancer to 65% as well as greatly increase the risk of breast cancer in the other breast. Check out http://www.facingourrisk.org for more information on hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. Ms Nixon certainly sounds like a strong candidate for carrying a gene mutation.
