Did Chantix Cause Man to Kill Himself?
A British television executive committed suicide two months after he started taking the smoking cessation drug Champix, which is marketed as Chantix in the United States.
Omer Jama, 39, of Bolton, England, was a Sky Sports video editor who was taking the drug to try and kick his pack-a-day habit; it is being reported by London’s Daily Mail.
What do you think? Do you or someone you know take Chantix?

I took Chantix for about 7 weeks. I felt depression but could not say that it was this drug that caused it. I never had suicidal thoughts. I had to stop taking it because it was causing me to stumble & slur my words.
I did stop smoking though! 7 months 12 days (less 20 minutes at this time)
50+ years of smoking 1-3 packs a day since I was 13!
I do recommend Chantix to others.
I took Chantix for 30 days…quit smoking and haven’t had a desire to ever smoke again…
I recommend the drug!!!
My wife and I smoked for over 40 years and have tried everything from patches to gum. We found that Chantix worked for both of us. We did change the dosage ourselves due to not being able to sleep soundly. We adjusted to 1 pill in the a.m. and both of us have not had the desire to smoke since 5:30am, 24 January 2007. Saved us $6500 per year and improved our health immediately. We can even be around smokers and not have the urge to smoke. Highly recommend Chantix.
I didn’t expericence any side effects from Chantix. I was smoking 3-4 packs per day until I quit 8 months ago.
The man & his wife had recently seperated/ divorced, I think that probably made him depressed. Depression isn’t uncommon during the end of a relationship.
any personal experience with this stop smoking prescription drug Chantix from Pflizer ? I was given a prescription for smoking cessation about 1 year ago, but was afraid to take the new Chantix.
Hi,
I took chantix for three months. I had no problem with them. I was smoking 2 packs cigarettes a day. I am so thankful for them. My husband took them too at the same time i did and, he is a diabetic. It really works. I know others have taken them too and had no problem. Maybe he was taking other medications or had sucidal tendies before taking chantix. If so maybe patients should be screen weeks before taking it. Bringing in all medications so their physicians can see what they are taking. blood test should be given to see if they are on hard drugs also.
First the govt turns its back, allowing cigarette makers to addict the public with a product that, when used according to directions, will KILL you.
Then the Rx companies develop a drug to control impulse, and they market it as an anti-smoking drug. And the public is pacified, much less willing to rise and stop the govt from stealing your rights. Your impulses are suppressed.
Chantix, Chantix, Chantix…..
Got a chanty, zombielike implication there, huh?
Population control is next.
I took Chantix for 12 weeks.
Weeks 1-4 were great…really helped me kick the habit.
Weeks 5-8 same thing, but I noticed myself getting very very very agitated and depressed. Not a withdrawal type depression, but something within my brain was not working the way it used to. I don’t get depressed, I deal and move on. I am not at all the type to worry or stress, or get depressed. These feelings and the thoughts I experienced were not normal for me at all.
Weeks 8-12, I had to stop taking Chantix. I enjoyed the fact that I was not smoking, but I could not stand the way it was making me feel. I was unable to get excitement from anything. Sex was not fun, working out was not fun, nothing was fun to me anymore. I felt useless and like crap all day, every day and I felt extreme levels of hate building up inside of me.
2 weeks after quitting Chantix I felt normal again. My brain feels the way it did before, and I am able to enjoy simple pleasures again.
Be VERY wary of this drug. Some people seem to have great success on it, but it does things to your brain that are NOT normal.
If you are a strong willed and independent individual I seriously recommend not taking this drug.
