Students at Prom Ill From Energy Drinks

Officials at the American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa, Ala., are considering banning energy drinks after one student was hospitalized and several others became ill after drinking too many of the drinks during the school’s annual prom trip.

Headmaster Dan Carden says about 10 students became sick at about 10 p.m. on April 11 while the school was at The Grand Hotel Marriott Resort in Point Clear for its prom. One student began vomiting.

School officials said the ill students were tested for drugs and alcohol and the tests came back negative.

Oh for Christsake why not just ban living

Banning them is overkill. So is punishing any of the students for drinking legal drinks.

how can you punish kids for drinking a perfectly legal, non-alcoholic beverage that is not against any rules? even if they drank too many, it’s not illegal or even against school rules, if they want to ban them from now on, then fine it’s a private school they have that right, but to punish someone for a rule that does not exist is completely unacceptable

They should ban throwing up

They should ban soft drinks too. If the students drink too much of that, they’ll get sick. I wonder which energy drinks they are talking about, cause that makes a big difference. You can’t just lump all of them together. Most have loads of sugar too. I doubt they were talking about XS energy drink, no sugar, no carbs, 8 calories, 80mg caffeine, 4900% B12. Good for you.
Too much of anything can make anyone vomit. Milk will do it too, I speak from experience, lost $20.

Maybe the whole story is not being told concerning the “energy drinks”. There are a whole lot of holes in this story. This school claims no illegal substances yet they punish students for perfectly legal drinks you buy in a convenient store???? Makes you wonder what else is behind this story and there is more to it than what’s being reported………All you have to do is look.

I am amazed at how many people that are loading up with these high caffeine or other stimulant drinks. The adrenals are designed for flight or fight, and I am sure that large amounts of these stimulants can not be healthy long-term. Perhaps some will read these kinds of stories and think twice before loading up on the high octane power drinks.

just drinking one energy drink is enough. It even says on the cans do not drink more than X cans. Usually its 3 cans per day. And that is enough to make you sick. Had a friend drink 2 red bulls back to back, yeah… He got sick for a while. The kids chose to drink the energy drinks and they should of known that drinking many energy drinks in one setting isn’t good for the body.

I cannot understand, ban energy drinks? Well there are a few that have high doses of sugar and caffeine. I agree with Josh, bet they were NOT XS Energy drinks. Why not ban school lunches? Carb filled and preservative laced food that has little to no nutritional value.
America get a life, we are over weight because of what we eat. In school we have little choice.

Anything done in extreme can make you sick. Where were the Chaperones of the prom?

I would like more info on this story as well…

I think it’s past time to ban all the extremely liberal, Politically Correct airheads that have anything to do with educating our children. Now they want to ban a legal drink? They have banned dodge ball? They have banned the game of tag? No score keeping so there are no losers and only winners during competitive sports?
The teachers are screwing the students (pun intended) out of lifes experiences! How will the students ever learn to compete, or make the correct decisions, once they leave acadamia and enter the real world?
Many school districts forbid prayer in any form; like a moment of silence; but require students to take Muslim studies and/or dress as Muslims for a day or more. Oh yes, don’t forget the most important thing of all; punish the vast majority, lest you offend the insignificant minority.
HOGWASH!

Umm…is there any PROOF that the energy drinks caused the vomiting. I’m not a doctor, but I’m pretty sure vomiting can be caused by other things, and sometimes those other things are communicable.

Energy Drinks… “Christian Crack”

I think the only thing that needs to be banned here is, American Christian Academy. I bet you their proms are a blast. I think they made a movie out of a school like this, called, FOOTLOOSE.

Wy blame the drink? How many did they drink? Even excessive water drinking can make one sick. We need to get back to personal accountability instead of blaming other than the user who uses the stuff in excess or wrong
