If teens had parents they could respect, they would respect them and do what they're told. I know when I was a teen I had fearful respect for my parents and I would have feared their punishment worse than any legal repercussions. To this day I have the utmost respect for my parents and value their input above anyone else's even though I'm an adult.

If parents were first-of-all respect-worthy and secondly demanded respect, crap like this wouldn't happen. The problems that are surfacing with this generation began with the prior generation and their complete lack of respect for authority dating back to the 60's.

I think that at the age these girls were at should know what is right and what is wrong. like others i do wonder where were their parents in all this? why werent they with their children and showing them and teaching them how to be good human beings. what they did was calculated and totally discusting. and i dont think help would do any good for them. they probably think that they were right and nothing will change their minds. even of of their mother's stated ''. . .well she should have been able to back up what she wrote on myspace. . '' now i wonder why the girls turned to violence. if this is what their parents were teaching them, then no wonder that girl got beaten.

My comment is in response to the teenager who wrote the comment above. Your comment was very refreshing to read. I agree with you wholeheartedly. You also have great grammar compared to all the other postings, which I am so happy to see that not all teenagers are allowing text messaging to dissolve all grammar and spelling lessons.

All of the girls involved should be punished, maximum sentence, period.

My 21 year old son has said he's seeing this alot in both teenagers and young adults who are gangster wannabes, Instead finding positive ways to resolve their problems, the video games are teaching that violence works best, but those who use it most are really just bullys who are a fraid of an honest fair fight. I fully agree with my son when he's pointed out that most of the crap that starts fights are just bullies looking for an excuse to take their anger out on some one who either dose not know how to fight or is too scared to.. But this crap needs to stop now.

Kant aneeone spell theese day's,just reading any posts on the net these days tells me the real problem might just be a total lack of education. It's absolutely pathetic to me that nobody can even spell simple words, but at the same time try to come off as intelligent....sad,really really sad.

If that were my daughter who was attacked like that, I would definitely press charges and advocate for the stiffest sentence posible. But at the end of the day, I would turn this into a learning experience for my daughter. What did you learn from this? Did you learn not to antagonize a bunch of idiots? Did you learn that words (as silly as they may be) can land you in a bad situation?

I am not condoning the behavior of these bullies in any way, shape or form. However, these kids need to realize that trash talking can get you beat up. I have a thirteen year old daughter and this scared the crap out of me. When my daughter and I discussed this, I pointed out to her that she cannot leave herself open to this kind of retaliation by encouraging it. If you talk trash about beating someone up, there is a chance that your target may be a thug and come after you with evething she has.

Instead of focusing on the end result, we, as parents, need to get to the root cause of this problem and take steps to keep our children from getting caught up.

Had this horrible beating occurred during my teen years and before then, the savage girls would have been jailed and no bail set. Upon conviction, they would serve hard time and their parents would be so ashamed that they would leave town or hide their heads when leaving their homes. The school where I attended would also be ashamed that their curriculum did not include decent, moral behavior.

I make no excuse for the girls savage behavior, but I believe many parents and schools are also responsible. I especially think the parent that defended her daughter in such an unbecoming manner should be very aware that she placed her child in danger of being physically damaged and/or killed by her daughter's next victim -- yes, I believe beatings shall again occur if her daughter and the other girls aren't severely punished via other than community service and/or counseling -- which all the girls need as well as severe punishment -- the parents need counseling also.

The girl that was beaten should be the one Phrozen "moans" for. Where is his is concern for her?

Not only reprehensible, but incredibly sad. Parents, teachers, others in authority - where were they? These girls didn't decide to do this out of the blue. I'm sure there were signs that something was going to blow.

What about the absolutely destroyed trust of the girl who was the victim? This took place at a "friend's" house!? Will she ever learn to trust someone to be a friend again?

The mother who "defended" her daughter's place in this assault - what kind of denial is she in? If she is honest with herself there's no way she can even begin to defend what happened. So how can this person be reached?

If anything "positive" has come out of this, it's that we're now aware that teenage violence has incredibly escalated since the time I was a teen in the 70s. AND that it's not limited to boys. Now that we know, what can we do?

Something like monitor our own children more carefully when they're young, talk with them about what it means to direct anger and frustration in to acceptable and positive outlets. Stay close to them as parents not "older friends". Let them know there are limits and you'll enforce them whether or not the child likes it. Consistency, empathy, understanding, compassion for the child along with discipline when required makes for responsible, compassionate, sane adults.

when these 6 girls and 2 boys get before the judge, I feel they should all be convicted as charged.
They all knew what was happing, not one of the stepped in to stop it, not one of them called 911
for her help, a quick check would show all or most of them had a cell phone to do so, all kept
quiet about what happened. only a mistake made it public. They all are equally guilty!!!!

Phrozen, while I hate starting comments off with insults, it cant be helped in this case. Just how stupid are you? How long has it been since you've been a teenager? Oddly enough I can remember my teenage years pretty clearly and while I might remember a school yard fight or 2 in all of my time in Jr High and High School, none of it EVER approached this level of violence.

Teenagers arent at the mercy of their bodies nor are they inherently violent, what kind of friends did you have because I can't think of a single friend of mine growing up that would of done anything even close to this level of violence.

You were a teenager once, did you and a group of your friends ever decide to lure someone over to your house, proceed to beat the crap out of them and keep them from leaving? How many teenage girls did you knock unconscious while growing up, hrm, let me count how many times I did that... Oh yeah, NONE.
