FDA Puts Lasik Surgery Complaints Under Microscope

A decade after Lasik surgery hit the market the FDA is opening the floor to comments from unhappy patients.

About 7.6 million Americans have undergone some form of laser vision correction, including the $2000-per-eye Lasik. Lasik is quick and, if no problems occur, painless.  But an unlucky few have suffered life-changing side effects like lost vision, dry eye and night vision problems.

I had lasik done in 1999 when I was 49. I immediately experienced a web of floaters that scared me alot. They faded somewhat and after all these years I have gotten used to them. At times things are blury just because of them. I complained to the eye Drs. and they just said that I must have had them before or other some other lame excuse. I would not have had this done if I would have known this would happen. I also feel that my eyesight is more delicate and I fear loosing it as I age. I have to wear glasses for reading all the time anyway. Thank you for a listening ear. I think many people who are not happy with the results are not being heard and the percentage is much higher. Only those with the worst outcome get heard.

I haven’t had the lasik surgery, however after being preped for surgery by accident by a student in training, I have the same problems, reported in the news. I had an adverse reaction to Atropine in 2004, problems lingered and increased for four years. Went to get glasses in January 2008, discussed the adverse reaction to atropine with doctor. Said she was using the lowest dose of tropicamide, (which is in the atropine family, wouldn’t have any side effects except dialation, of course the next day the gave me the real information regarding the drops) I immediately became ill in the office, psychosis followed, dry eye, sunburst, flashes, tinitus, nasal problems, numbness, headaches, the same thing that happened in 2004, no one will listen to me.
These people with the adverse lasik surgery’s, should be tested for lesion and plaque on the brain,
please check the FDA pharmacology report on Atropine. I had more than 40+ lesions on my brain in 2005, after headaches and other symptoms persisted from eyedrops in 2004. Received MRI in February, 2008 for headaches, numbness and other problems after administration of tropicamide in January 2008. The number of complaints from the surgery could actually be from the eye drops. Please consider this information and investigate, neurotoxcity. The doctors are not familiar with the chemicals they use or the effects they have on individuals, the poison control center doesn’t know. If an eyedrop can cause psychosis, can’t it cause brain damage. Check the web on Defining Chemical Injury, Toxic Encephalopathy, Opthamology and the brain, please!!!!
