Insurance Company Refuses to Pay for Woman’s Facial Surgery

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Lisa Medina, 22, of Michigan, was born with Tessier Cleft, a congenital defect that has left her underdeveloped face slashed wide-open on both sides – from her roofless mouth to the empty spaces where her eyes should have been, reports mlive.com.

First, Medicaid told her they wouldn’t cover her next surgery because it was cosmetic. When they finally realized it was a medical necessity, Medicaid said it couldn’t pay for an out-of-state surgery - and Medina’s doctor is based in North Carolina.

What do you think? Have you ever struggled with an insurance company to pay for a needed medical procedure?

Drinking Red Bull May Have Killed A Supermarket Worker

Friday, April 25th, 2008

A 40-year-old supermarket worker died of a heart attack after drinking as many as four cans of Red Bull energy drink each night, the Daily Mail has reported.

Pathologist Dr. Ian Roberts said this week Alfredo Duran, 40, of Wheatley in Oxford, England, had an enlarged heart and the excessive caffeine he consumed each day may have contributed to his death.

“My feeling is — given the evidence available — it was a cardiac arrest possibly contributed to by subtoxic caffeine ingestion,” Roberts told the Daily Mail.

Each can of Red Bull is said to contain 80mg of caffeine — about the same amount as a cup of coffee.

Bad Children’s Vaccines Found At Merck Plant

Friday, April 25th, 2008

The FDA found contaminated children’s vaccines and other potentially serious concerns at Merck & Co.’s vaccine plant in the Philadelphia suburbs.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported FDA inspectors found unwanted fibers on vaccine vial stoppers also were among the areas of concern cited

FDA inspectors visited the plant, in West Point in Montgomery County, on 30 separate days from November through January.

In December, Merck recalled 1.2 million doses of its vaccine against Haemophilus influenza type B, made at the same plant, because of a sterility problem discovered in October. It also quarantined nearly a year’s worth of other, possibly suspect doses.

10 Sex Mistakes Men Make

Friday, April 25th, 2008

FOX Sexpert Dr. Yvonne Fulbright maps out the biggest mistakes men make in the sack.

Whether it’s titillation tactics, misjudging erogenous zones or misguided notions as to what women want, men need to avoid the following bedroom blunders if they want to become great lovers:

1. Thinking that foreplay starts in the sack. The timer for enticing does not start once you hit the sheets. Your pre-game show is best approached as an all day affair. Women love to be wooed. Sex is a head game — in more ways than one — and women want to know you can’t get them out of your mind. We love knowing that we are desired.

India: Mother And Baby Die After Denied Treatment

Friday, April 25th, 2008

An Indian woman and her newborn baby have died after they were refused medical treatment.  Officials say Maya Devi was concidered an “untouchable” in her country.

The 28-year-old mother gave birth outside the materity wing at Kanpur Medical College in northern Uttar Pradesh state.  Her baby boy died minutes after his birth.

Devi was put into the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit after she had a heart attack but she died Thursday morning.

The Press Trust of India reports that several doctors, including the hospital’s chief medical superintendent, refused to touch her or give the baby medical care.

Devi was a Dalit, or “untouchable,” a group at the bottom of the caste social ladder who have long been ostracized and forced into menial professions despite laws banning discrimination.

Many high-class Hindus fear coming into contact with them.
