Mr. Ellis has it right. If you look carefully at the picture before, he only lost part of the pad of his finger. Probably about 8x12mm. As a hand surgeon, I have seen this many times. With proper wound care and patience, this kind of result is the norm, without "pixie dust."
That being said, there may be something beneficial in the powder to accelerate growth and minimize scarring. Before I would recommend it to patients I would need to see all the expected animal (first then human) research with placebo controls.

I would be interested to know if Pixie Dust has been used on internal organs. I have a son who
has Alpha One disease and a husband who suffers from Emphasema. Is it currently being used as an enhaler or perhaps injected for copd? Thank you in advance for your attention.

My left index finger from the last joint to the tip was crushed between a downed tree and a falling tree when I was 20 years old. It looked like strawberry jam. I went to the hospital and the doctor told me that I would have a much shorter finger from then on. He said there was nothing to stitch, so he put a finger cup on it and wrapped it. He instructed me to soak it in a solution of betadine? and hydrogen peroxide? (this was 35 years ago) 3X day for 30 days to prevent infection. That was a tall order for an active, 20 year old with ADD tendencies. But I did it and after 30 days I carefully removed the plastic cup expecting to find a short, bloody stump. Instead I found that the tip of my finger had regrown to within about 3/16" of it's normal length. It looked brand new, like a baby's finger. The nail grew back later. I wonder if the "pixie dust" had anything to do with this guy's results. It wasn't a very "scientific" experiment.

Study Finds No Cancer-Marijuana Connection
By Marc Kaufman
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, May 26, 2006; Page A03

The largest study of its kind has unexpectedly concluded that smoking marijuana, even regularly and heavily, does not lead to lung cancer.

The new findings "were against our expectations," said Donald Tashkin of the University of California at Los Angeles, a pulmonologist who has studied marijuana for 30 years.

"We hypothesized that there would be a positive association between marijuana use and lung cancer, and that the association would be more positive with heavier use," he said. "What we found instead was no association at all, and even a suggestion of some protective effect."

Federal health and drug enforcement officials have widely used Tashkin's previous work on marijuana to make the case that the drug is dangerous. Tashkin said that while he still believes marijuana is potentially harmful, its cancer-causing effects appear to be of less concern than previously thought.

Earlier work established that marijuana does contain cancer-causing chemicals as potentially harmful as those in tobacco, he said. However, marijuana also contains the chemical THC, which he said may kill aging cells and keep them from becoming cancerous.

I was grinding metal, March 31th 2008, when the face grinder grabbed the metal and it took off a big chunk of my thumb, no bone. It looked close to what this mans finger looked like.
I took pictures almost every day of the healing process. ("www.rennips.com" I need to organize the pictures but they are all there, caution they are high resolution)
It's been one month today and it is 98% healed, and appears that there will not be any evidence that it happened at all.
All I did was keep the thumb "soaked" in "First Aid Cream" (Neosporin) not letting it dry out, and changing the dressing several times each day. Surprisingly it did not hurt much, no pain killers were needed, when it happened or after.

I have my two finger tips cut off at the first knuckle on my left hand and find it hard to believe any type of dust is going to grow my finger tips back, finger nail and all with finger prints. I know how hard it is to get the feeling back and the tips of my fingers are at the bone and it has been 8 years and they are still healing. So, I say this is fabricated and not possible.

The last sentence in the story says, <blockquote>"Spievak has not lost any bone, nerves or tendon material."</blockquote>

Clearly the man did not regrow a portion of his severed finger. He may have regrown tissue, but there is already a healing process in our bodies that does that.

The story states the injury occurred three years ago and that the man claims his finger healed in four weeks. If he had truly regrown a portion of a body part I guarantee you that news of this would have come out immediately.

Either Fox News has been duped or has for one reason or another decided to publish a tabloid-quality news story.

You know... I heard about a girl who stood on her head and drank ice water and never got pregnant once! Go get it, Fox News!

I lost half of my finger in a hydraulic log splitter accident at age 16. I'd love to have some of this "pixie dust" to regrow the end and learn the piano or guitar!
