Dr. Manny’s Notes: 1 Lb. Premature Baby

Early Birth for Mom Who Lost Significant Weight Due to Morning Sickness – 28 weeks into her pregnancy, Fiona Shaw’s morning sickness was so bad that she lost 42 pounds and was forced to have an emergency Caesarean section.

Baby Born Weighing 1 Pound at 23 Weeks - Ellie-Suzanne Fish was given a 10 to 15 percent chance of surviving at birth. But today, at 9 months old, she weighs 14 pounds and has finally been released from the hospital.

For reasons that doctors don’t fully understand, the rate of premature births seems to be on the rise. Watch FOX’s own Dr. Manny, who specializes in high risk pregnancy, discusses the health problems and risks associated with these specific cases.

My little one was born at 26 weeks. He weighed a whopping 1lb. 15 ozs. Jake spent 3.5 mos. in the hospital and came home weighing about 4 lbs.

Oh, yes, he is almost twenty-one years old, weighs about 220, 6ft. tall and strong as an ox! He is in his second semester studying computer technology. God is good!

My Daughter was born at 26 weeks and weighed 13.7 oz. and was 10 inches long she was truely a medical marvel and one of God’s greatest Miracles. She was in the neo-natal unit for 91 days but came home when she finally reached the 4 pound mark. We have been truely blessed by her tenacity and this week she will turn 4 years old and be a happy healthy and extremely bright little light that we share with everyone so people can see that Miracles really do happen !

Dr Manny,
Don’t you think the way women eat, early in pregnancy, has to do with the rate of premature births? I think women don’t eat enough protien and eat too much of the wrong things..i.e. soda and eat too few GOOD calories. They think the medical profession will ‘fix’ anything. These women are afraid of gaining weight, rather than really focusing on a VERY good diet, rich in protien and other essential nutrients. The answer seems very simple and yet, much more difficult to do, for many of them. But the outcome is SO MUCH BETTER!!!
