This happened to me when I was 9. I was in Third grade. I had stomach pains for years and they couldn’t find what was wrong. My stomach was hurting really bad one day and they found a cyst. Turns out it was my twin. It was as big as a naval orange.

This happened to me when i was 17. They called it a dermoid cyst. They said that my mom would have had twins with me but that it grew in me instead of my mom. I really never understood it. They said it was the size of a grapefruit and that it had skin, hair, bones, & teeth. I was having so many female problems and i had surgery and thats when they found the dermoid. I have heard of someone having one of these on their brain. It is just so odd to me. If anyone has any information on this it will be greatly appreciated. I wish the young girl a speedy recovery and hope that she is doing fine.

I was so surprised to read this story! This happened to us too! When I was pregnant, an ultrasound found something abnormal growing inside my unborn daughter. No one knew why something was growing inside her during my pregnancy. They too thought it was a tumor. But it was growing so rapidly inside her and the ultrasounds showed calcium fragments which confused all of the doctors. The growth inside her was so large (the size of a cantelop), that they had to take her via cesarean early. Imagine….the size of a cantelop in a newborn! Once she was delivered, all of the specialists still didn’t know what the growth was until they cut her open. She had her surgery two days after she was born. That was a tough 2 days not knowing. When they opened her up, they found an amniotic sac with fluid, tissue and bone fragments. Nothing was really recognizable like a baby or anything. Doctors tell us that it would have been her identical twin sister had it actually formed. Apparently in early development, when the egg was dividing, something went wrong with one of them and my daughter absorbed it into her abdomin. It was attached to a blood vessel in my daughter’s upper bowel so it was getting blood supply which was why it was growing inside her. She recovered from the surgery perfectly but had to have a follow-up surgery when she was 2 months old because the upper bowel where the amniotic sac attached wasn’t functioning and needed to be removed. Although the first 2 months of our daughter’s life was quite a roller coaster ride – our daughter is almost 9 years old now and as healthy as can be! We are truly blessed!!!

I hope the poor girl won’t be too traumatized, and I feel sorry for the lost child.

But what irritates me about this story is that the journalist says that “the embryo was a formed fetus.” An embryo cannot be a fetus, too! The embryonic stage of an unborn child ends when the fetal stage begins. This just looks so unprofessional and unintelligent to me. Either the child was in the embryonic stage or the fetal stage, but not both at once.

The article said it was a one in 500,000 live birth chance of this happening. I wonder if that number is actually smaller in reality. I wouldn’t be shocked if at least some of the time, the twin is fully absorbed into the living twin, and nobody ever finds out about it. Anyway, it is something to ponder.

I am familiar with this occurrence potential. My late husband experienced testicular cancer many years ago. When the tumor was removed it was determined to be an embryonic carcinoma – with teeth/hair/skin. He was a twin. The doctors immediately put his twin sister through rigorous testing to see if she also had similar physical effects. I’d never heard of such a thing. Is interesting to learn that 1:500,000 births can have such a situation occur. Makes having a “perfect child” even more amazing!

I once had severe abdominal pains too…

As it turned out, I just eaten too much cheese. Ironically, my fecal deposit sort of looked like Bart Simpson.

Try Dermoid or Bezoar but not a “twin”. But, then again, at least it wasn’t identical and displayed a remarkable resistance to gastric acid for nine years.

Don’t mean to be too picky, but I don’t think this tumor/shrunken twin was in the stomach. The stomach is a digestive organ through which food passes. I’m guessing it was in the abdomen. I would expect the writer for such a large news organization to be a little more accurate.

Everyone has a right to his/her own opinion and comments. Yeah, this isn’t a subject to be taken lightly; we are talking about a nine year old little girl who has feelings; twin or not, it’s still a little freaky. But some people deal with the unknown or scary things in a bizarre, kind of sadistic way.
They were actually having a discussion about this on the radio this morning and the dj was asking people’s opinion’s of what they should do with supposedly “twin”, believe me, these comments on here aren’t all that bad. For example, one guy wrote in and said they could stick in a music box and call it Thumbelina………..so just ignore those comments, or laugh or whatever. Men just aren’t as sensitive as women, but then maybe I’m a little insensitive too, because I actually did laugh at that…..but seriously, it’s not funny…just wierd.

I think that this whole thing is weird. This is the wierdest thing i’ve ever heard in my life. I need to go get checked out ot see if i swallowed a twin. I have been having stomach pains. You know how you go on living without thinking about your health, then all of a sudden, you hear some weird stories like these and just get all freaked out?
