Possible ‘Cluster’ in Missouri Town
After more than a dozen residents were diagnosed with brain tumors over a seven-month period, people in Cameron, Mo. are worried they may have a “cluster” on their hands.
Most of the brain tumors are large and benign. The state Health Department said Tuesday they are looking into the concern.

Have the ground and surface waters tested for radioactivity. I was Env. Director for the Cahto Rancheria in No. California, which had many brain turmors, leukemias, and cluster deaths along groundwater and surface water gradients. There was a toxic waste landfill next to the Reservation that tested for radioactivity, and PCBs. We used Secor International out of Sacramento to do the testing and analyses. The site is now an EPA Superfund cleanup site.
I am from Richmond, MO a town within 100 miles of Cameron. I, too, have noticed a high incidence of brain tumors in our small town since I was a teenager in the early 70s. Again, most benign, but requiring surgery. It would be important to the entire region to discover the cause. If the previous reply is correct, a clean up may reduce many other incidences of health concerns in the region.
This is something like the movie “Erin Brockovich” with Julia Roberts. It is very sad. You live your life not thinking anything you are doing is bad or harmful then you find out differently one day. It is horrible you cant even trust water. A free unlimited supply source available to everyone. I will pray for all of the residents in the community! GOD will Bless YOU ALL.
To this day I remain shocked that there was no investigation following the deaths of at least five people that were or had been dispatchers for the now defunct San Clemente (CA) Police Department. To my knowledge they all ended up with cancer and four of the five were under fifty years old.
One would think that with these many deaths at a small public entity, someone would want to know if it was just coincidence or otherwise. My report on this to Dateline NBC went unanswered.
This will clearly follow this path. They will find someone with deep pockets to sue and then collect a bunch of money and then discover that really there is no direct cause of the cancer. People seem to forget that correlation is not causation.
My Dad was a doctor in Maryville, MO. Long ago, he told me that he was concerned about a high incidence of brain tumors particularly in the young around Maryville. He tracked it but never found the numbers needed to make an argument for something to be done. That was in the 1960’s and early 1970’s.
Per the Benign Brain Tumor Cancer Registry Amendment Act, all benign brain tumors are reportable, effective January 1, 2004. (Public Law 107-260 – signed 10/29/02).
This law includes the reporting of any and all benign brain and central nervous system tumors. These benign brain tumors should have been being reported to a cancer registry of some kind.
The CDC is worried about some possible runoff that may contaminate the city water supply? Why don’t the CDC go into any store that sells food and read the lables on food products. There is more poison in (FDA approved poison) food that in any water supply in the United States.
Example; The ecology wackos jump on any tiny sign of some poison like phosphoric acid that may get into the ground water via a small spill. OK, so, let’s compare that with the millions of gallons of Coca Cola, which contains phosphoric acid, gets drank by millions of people, which gets pissed down the drain, which goes to the city treatment systems. Where does all that phosphoric acid go?
Phosphoric acid is a very powerful metal and rust solvent. It will consume virtually any kind of metal and metalic corrosion.
Phosphoric acid is only one of over 400 poisonous chemicals approved by the FDA to be added to food products. Vitamin D is poisonous and can kill you. Don’t believe it? Search it via Google and you will (should) be shocked by what you will find, but you won’t because you are brain conditioned by the Television media. Ha! Ha!
I’ve heard that there is a concern about a possible link between cell phone usage and brain tumors. I don’t know the validity of that but it would be interesting to investigate along those lines. If it proved to be true, the negative financial impact on the industry would be HUGE! (that could be a big reason they wouldn’t go there).
Not surprised! We are having a similar problem here in our town in Texas, I personally can name at least 10 people within the last 5 months that have had to have gall bladder surgery, some have been emergency surgery, including one local doctor. A friend is having gall bladder surgery tomorrow! Something is not right. Probably a lot more of this going on than the public knows about.
Do you know what is the most common thing injested by Americans? How about 36 tea spoons of Refined Carbohydrates (SUGAR). This poison is shared by 99.99999999999% of all the population of this great country.
You don’t see any thing wrong with that, do you? That is 1.5 tons of that crap by the time a child is ten years old. Run that on out.
By age 20 that is 3 tons. By age 40 that is 6 tons. By age 80 that is 12 tons. Now remember, all that crap has been passing through your liver, and I mean passing through and goes into your blood stream and plugs up your arteries with plaque.
But by all means, don’t stop eating suger, take another asprin. Asprin will thin your blood and will pass through the plugged up arteries. Then after a while more plaque builds up and then you can take more asprin to further thin your blood. On an on it goes until you have a stroke and or a heart attack.
But by all means, DON’T STOP EATING SUGARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How can the doctors make a living if you make yourself healthy????? Ha! Ha!
Possibly it should also be looked at whether these individuals live near cell phone towers, as well as their
total use of cell phones. Recently published in the Journal of Science was a medical study showing increased rates of brain cancers with use of cell phones.
I would like you to ask the doctor on your Sunday Housecall a simple question.
Dear Good Doctor; Pray tell us: what is your blood pressure: what is your weight: do you have diabetes? Do you have prostitis, you know, ED? What is your colerstol number? How much exercise do you get other than getting up from your chair? Do you know what eating right is??
Would you prescribe a known poison to some patient? Do you think we all need vitamin D? Do you know that vitamin D can kill you? (I’m referring to the kind you buy off the shelf)
You FOX infopersons are chicken to as the doctor thiese questions, right? So are you muzzled too? Or are you just plain decieved?
Cell phones? How stupid can you be? Do you think for one nanosecond that a cell phone does more damage to a person’s body that 36 teaspoons of sugar a day?
Come on folks, get smart.
Just think how rich the trial lawyers would be if they knew what caused all these degenerative diseases like cancer, brain tumor, diabetes, strokes, high blood pressure etc etc.
Those trial lawyers are also stupid. All you have to do is listen to the warnings put forth by those medicine commercials on TV. Looks to me like there is unlimited material for unlimited law suits.
Ho hum, how dum!

Chill out on the sugar issue, if the cause turns out to be too much sugar, I bet that people eat less or none at all. I don’t think that anyone is looking to sue anyone with deep pockets, all we are trying to do here is get our loved ones better and keep anyone else from being affected. I personally know all of the people who have a tumor or have had one removed, and not a word of suing anybody has been spoken. I don’t think there is anyone to sue, who would purposely plant a carcinogen that would give all of these innocent people tumors?
Not everyone is sue-happy or stupid as you mentioned earlier. These are good educated down-to-earth people in a small town that want to be healthy. Nothing more nothing less, so it would be helpful if you would just give suggestions or helpful advice instead of coming up with nonsense.
Thanks
The Associated Pressed reported in 2006 and again in 2008 that unregulated Endocrine Disruptors and Prescription Drugs found in Treated Wastewater are now showing up in our drinking water. They cited studies on fish and wildlife that demonstrated ill effects. They also stated that there was great concern for humans. Looks like the first of the human studies has started … in Cameron.
It is my understanding that the Health Department has not yet been involved due to the fact that (so far) the tumors diagnosed are benign. With the growing reports of tumors and perhaps the possibility of numerous deaths(?) gone by as “natural causes” – maybe it’s time the State steps in and makes available free public screenings for its residents. I have family there and as they express their fear of living in a community that is in fact contaminated with “something,” they need at the very least, at this stage of the outbreak, peace of mind – not to mention a whole lot of bottled water while “the powers that be” find an expedient solution to cleaning up the area so that everyone in Cameron has a safe and healthy environment to live in.
Thank you Tami!!!!
I am a Cameron Resident, and I have thought the exact same thing about the state giving us all the chance to be tested. I have 2 small children and have heard that one of their teachers has it and is in ICU, I am worried sick! We don’t have the funds to be tested, so right now we are at a loss and are wanting answers or just peace of mind! There is little bottled water left in town also. It has been going like crazy at Walmart, they can’t keep it on the shelves. I greatly appreciate you agreeing with me and many others on the situation!
I moved to Cameron, MO seven months ago. I agree with “K” and “Tami”. Most of the people are “good educated down-to-earth people” but they tend to be less financial secure. If a family member becomes sick and it is the fault of an outside entity they might be looking for relief from medical costs incurred and for the future. I am with Tami on that I would like my family to have “free public screenings for its residents”.
I am not looking for a scapegoat but for the real problem therefore enabling us as a community and state to come up with real solutions. Hysteria and panic never help find solutions. Aggressive finger pointing usually doesn’t either. But thinking, reasoning, objectivity, and discussion do tend to find answers. I appreciate people who aren’t even effected coming up with possible avenues to follow in the search for solutions. Obviously some of them won’t be the culprit but it’s a start and continues to narrow the problem down. Thanks to the thinking public.

Are you a doctor? Do you know what your blood pressure, weight, and cholesterol are? And if your sugar numbers are accurate, then I should be a pretty unhealthy person. But all my numbers are good. 5ft 8in 135lbs and cholesterol of 135. But I dang sure dont watch for refined sugars and I dang sure love my sweets. But holy crap, I’m killing myself even though my doc says i’m a good definition of healthy. I think you need to do a little more medical research, cause if you did, you would find that alot of medicine contradicts itself. Coca Cola will make you diabetic, but diet sodas cause cancer, and if you smoke weed you’ll die even though they have yet to prove harmful effects of smoking marijuana
I live in Cameron and came home today to find a water testing kit on the front porch. Fill out a survey and send in a water sample. After doing a little checking it seems to come from a company who sells products to treat water in your home. I called City Hall to check it out and they said it was a legitimate business but they are not doing any work for the city.
I have lived in Cameron, MO for the past 12 years and am now having to explain to my 12 and 8 year old daughters why cancer is being connected to Cameron. I feel the media is causing hysteria in this community and until there are further answers they are just rehashing this too much. My 8 year old cried her self to sleep last night scared that she will get a brain tumor. Please realize that all people, including children, are affected by this and creating panic is only causing damage. Brain tumors have always been around, as well as other cancers. There has been lots of forms of cancers in our community and other communities. Take a step back and look at the big picture. We will get answers but pointing fingers right now is not going to get us any where.
I’m a very concerned mother of an inmate at the Western Missouri Correctional Center in Cameron. My son who is only 24 has had migraine heads up there for months, but the State will not do an MRI to see if it is Cancer related. All they do up there is just give them headache medicine and that is it. This is very alarming to me dueto the fact that the whole camp could be effected.
All of the workers there have been told to bring bottled to drink, whereas the inmate’s have no choice but to drink public water which maybe putting their lives in danger. Why should they be treated any different?
I have been told that all of the doctors that work up there have that job due to the fact they have malpractice suits on them and have lost their own practice, or they have lost their licence to treat people in a licenced medical office or hospital.
Maybe the “Call for Action ” News or a news team should investigate the prision itself, but of course they will just lie and do a cover up job. Can someone please help them????????
Thank you K and Tami!
I am a former resident of Cameron, Missouri and now reside in Texas. On March 8, 2007 I was diagnosed with brain cancer and mine is malignant, but only a level 2.
My symptoms were also migraine headaches. I still have the migraines, but they are not nearly as bad as they used to be since I am undergoing chemo treatment.
My hope is that they will soon be able to determine what is causing this as well as offer the families a free screening test. This was very tough for my family but they have been so wonderful helping my husband, our kids, and myself handle this. Each day I pray for the people that have been diagnosed with cancer, not only in Cameron, but all over the world, because I do understand what they are going through. It is a very tough situation because you don’t know what’s going to happen.
