My son also had LCPD. He was diagnosed in August 2005 at the age of five. In most cases the younger the chid is the better the outcome, however Tanner's hip was over 60% affected. The femar head colasped and the slipping out of socket. Tanner had surgery March 2006 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL in which his doctor put in a plate. He was in a body cast for seven weeks and we home schooled him the last 12 weeks of school. Tanner is so strong and driven that we was determined to heal as fast as he could. The doctor told us that it would be a year and half before they would remove the plate. Well, in December 2006 Tanner was healing faster than expected and had the plate removed two days after Christmas. After a lot of therapy and taking a year off from sports Tanner is almost 100% better. He still walks with a limp but it doesn't slow him down. He plays baseball, basketball, swims, any sport he can play.
