Surgeons Operate on Baby Inside Womb
The hospital told AFP Monday that this may be the earliest in utero surgery of its kind.
Baby Leah was diagnosed with a condition called amniotic band syndrome in which bands of tissue wrap themselves around a developing fetus’ limbs, hands or feet and cut off blood flow. Doctors say the tissue had wrapped around both Leah’s legs.
A hospital spokeswoman told AFP that doctors usually hold off on operating until 28 weeks of pregnancy to better the baby’s chances for survival. However, Leah risked losing both legs if doctors had waited in this case.

It is truly amazing what the doctors are capable of doing these days! And at only 22 weeks. Wow.
It’s also interesting to me how an unborn child is labeled a fetus when unwanted and a baby when wanted.
What a glorious miracle. In these days when other women are deciding to terminate a pregnancy of a perfectly health child, these people chose to do all they could to help her survive. God bless everyone involved, parents, doctors, nurses and mostly the precious baby. Have a wonderful life! My love to all.
Kelly,
You are absolutely correct. Basically the law allows for 2 murder charges if you kill mom and fetus because mom wanted the baby. If mom does not want the baby then she can have it killed (ie. make it no longer living) and that is perfectly acceptable. It apparently is all based on the desire of the mom. What I find really interesting is that dad does not have any say at all either way.
What a wonderful story…isn’t it amazing how God has given us this ability and knowledge?
Makes you wonder, how can anyone choose to murder their own…for any reason?? What a beautiful gift and blessing new born babies are!

I was told by a doctor that this is what happened to me. I am missing fingers and toes on each hand and foot and I have a mark on the back of my left leg. It appears that if I was not born two months early I may have lost my leg, but I am fortunate. I do have my legs and arms. I am so glad to know they can detect this and do something about it.
