Children’s Motrin Blamed for Causing Girl’s Blindness

A family is suing Johnson & Johnson, the maker of Children’s Motrin, alleging that the popular pain reliever caused a 6 year old to lose her vision.

The family says the little girl, now age 11, had a rare allergic reaction to the active ingredient in Motrin: ibuprofen, which can be found in other over-the-counter brands such as Advil and Nuprin.

I feel bad for the child and the parents… but did they really give the child MORE after she had an allergic reaction?

ANY thing can cause a reaction. All meds say to watch for reaction. It is no one fault. Sad but…

Do doctors say if there is a possibility of her getting her eyesight back? Thats a scary thing. My granddaughter has seizures (petit mal) and we’ve been told that its a possibility that it may be from immunizations. She was born in 2000 and I’ve heard alot of children have had things happen that were born in that year. This is something that really needs to be looked into because theres alot of kids that need their imunizations.

Give me a break. What happened to personal responsibility? People are allergic to all sorts of things and any half brained parent knows a rash means some sort of reaction. I feel bad for the girl but maybe the parents should be charged with negligence for continuing to give her the medicine.

I can’t believe the girl’s parents. Every medication says on it that if an allergic reaction occurs, to discontinue use and see a physician. I feel sorry for the girl that her parents are so daft. The lawsuit is bogus. It is another example of someone trying to blame someone else for their own stupidity.

I think the woman taking care of her child is an idiot. Don’t all medications display on the warning label, that if rashes or breaks in the skin etc occur, to discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor? Why the hell would you give a child a PAIN RELIEVER for a RASH? RASH = CREAM. PAIN = IBUPROFEN.

COMMON SENSE ANYONE?!?!?
I think motrin should pay for the hospital stay and not a penny more as an act of generosity.

Mucosa buning?? Never heard of this in an allergic reaction. Did the parents given her something else (a home remedy) that they are not admitting to?

When my son was a year old he ran a fever which I treated with Motrin. He soon broke out in a rash. The first thing I did was call his pediatrician. I was told not to give him anymore and bring him in for observation. Turns out he had Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease and I was to give Tylenol for the fever.

CALL DOCTOR WHEN WORRIED?
As a mother of two, if my children ever broke out into a rash for any reason, I was on the phone with my pediatrician’s office, not in my medicine cabinet! For Heaven’s Sake!
This poor sweet baby has been victimized by her own parents, not the company who produces medication that saves countless trips to hospitals and doctors for minor fevers, pains and aches.

Somebody get this child an advocate! Bless her little heart. How dare any court take on such a frivolous accusation when clearly the problem stemmed at home.

As a parent myself I am left wondering what the parents were thinking? If the mother had taken medication and then got a severe rash and burning of her mucous membrane.. WOULD SHE HAVE TAKEN MORE? I think this should be investigated alittle deeper. There is something going on beyond what is being told. Were they giving correct doses, or adding something to it. Who knows? Maybe it was an allergic reaction made worse by someone who obviously lacks common sense and misplaced the number of her pediatrician. I feel horrible for the child who is left with no sight and idiots for parents.
