Baby Comes ‘Back From the Dead’

Her parents were told she was stillborn, but less than a day later, a baby girl born in Bombay was heard making gurgling noises at the cemetary where her family had brought her to be buried.

Is it a miracle? Or is it malpractice? The hospital where the infant was birthed has launched an investigation to see if medical staff erred when they pronounced the baby dead.

Yet more proof that God is always in complete control!

Could have given the mother magnesium to lower her BP. My daughter was in NICU for 24 hours after birth because of the mag given to my wife.

“Limp” ain’t dead! Lottsa guys w/o medical training can tell you that.

What does this say about the abilities of the brain and when does it need to start recieving oxigen?

Did this baby lay there with out breathing for a day?

Is there brain damage?

Could the brain even survive at all that long with out oxigen?

If the baby should be O.K. what happens in the dynamics of that time at birth that the brain can go so long with out the necesary properties to thrive and could that princible be used in medical science to help others?

And so on, it’s unfortunate but there are so many questions here beyond wether some one messed up.

Doctors “practice” because they don’t have it all down pat.

Why are all the weird baby stories from India?

Comment by Cindy Johnston

Obviously it’s malpractice. If they would have checked the babies vital signs it would have revealed the baby was alive but heavily medicated. It was a miracle when the baby became alert before they barried the baby and heard it making sounds….. Thank goodness they didn’t barry the baby alive…..

It’s INDIA…a chicken farmer from the US could go there and become a doctor. Does this suprise anyone else?

“It’s INDIA…a chicken farmer from the US could go there and become a doctor. Does this suprise anyone else”

Don’t condemn the whole country–there are very intelligent doctors and medical staff but, you can find poor medical treatment anywhere…even in the US.

Comment by Mimi

Here is something being missed, its in India, girls are worth nothing there. Limp is one thing, did anybody take a listen for a heart beat, a pulse, check her brain waves, probably not, because females are not valued in India. Perhaps this little girl is a lesson to a nation of masoginst jerks. Of course they will present this in an entirely different picture. Hopefully she will be alright and grow up w/ loving and caring nuturing parents.

Comment by Susaan

hahahahaha!!! on the chicken farmer… you are probably right. I am laughing so hard !

Comment by Vito

A bizarre story like this could only come out of India.

Comment by Lee

“Hospital authorities ordered an inquiry to determine if the medical staff acted negligently in its diagnosis.”

Is that a joke?!

Guess what folks, this child was not dead as the headline suggests, nor did it have anything to do with God being in control.
It had everything to do with “Chicken Farmers” and their administration of “powerful medicines” and not realizing that the “powerful medicines” may affect the unborn child.
Thank God that they apparently don’t embalm in India.
Lets not be too hard on the so called “doctors” though, they are probably Dell support staff evenings and weekends.

What is wrong with that country?

Comment by someguyfromthemidwest

A miracle baby indeed! It’s too bad this happened in India though. Not exactly the greatest quality of life there. God help her!

is the baby ok? durrr..journalism at its finest

Now, will this make them believe in GOD!!! This was no mistake.

Comment by SHREE

God Is Real and His mercy endures forever. God gives life not take it!!!

Comment by Gigi

I am amazed by the power of will to survive that this demonstrates.
No, it probably won’t make anyone believe in God (if you don’t already believe from the overwhelming proof in nature, this one incident won’t change your mind).
No, it probably won’t make anyone change their mind about abortion (if your conscience isn’t bothered by taking the life of an innocent baby, this once incident won’t change your mind).
But it stands as a witness to the world that a person we may not think of as viable, is in fact well able to survive!
Please stop the derogatory remarks about India. The people there are as smart or smarter than we are, and every life is just as precious.

I’m reading all of these iggnorant peoples comments when they never been to India! India has more tradition than any country you can name… smarter healthier people than the U.S… and we do respect our women.

Comment by Jen

Ignorants!!! Narrow-minded jerks!!!

To fatherof3: The United States cannot hire enough researchers and engineers from India! Why? Because they are more qualified than US citizens! And, it is more difficult for an Indian to get into medical school in the US! Like Chinese, Japanese, and Whites, they have to score higher on the MCAT and have a higher GPA than other groups because there is more competition and less seats available!

To someguyfromthemidwest: I’ll make a comment as low quality as yours - it figures that you are from the mid-west. Like China, India is a developing country, and has made a lot of progress in recent years.

To Mimi: Brush up on your history. Women can hold office in India. Duh. They can go to school, have jobs, choose a husband, divorce a husband, etc. And they currently hold over 1/3rd of the seats in parliament.

I am not going to sit here and respond to every narrow-minded comment. However, it makes sense considering that 50% of US citizens don’t graduate high school… and don’t bother to learn about anything outside of our boarders. You act as if the US never experienced malpractice, like when US surgeons forgot metal instruments that were left inside their patient. Is that a story that should only come out of India? Narrow-minded idiots.

Comment by ChrisCross

This is crazy! Shame on me but I am laughing at the comments b/c most are true!! I have a very good friend who visits London and India on a regular basis and from what my friend has seen, India is incredibly poor. Children play in street medians while drivers whiz by. There are many very intelligent doctors from India here in the U.S. - maybe they should return to their country and birth those babies….

Comment by Laurie Sheffield

They declare her stillborn just ’cause she is “limp”…….??
Something sounds pretty fishy here…………..!

Comment by Jay Dexter

Sounds like the hospital dropped the ball on this one!!!

Comment by Ellian

Many adults are dead, too, but we don’t bury them until they turn 85.

Comment by Trina

its so nice, among all the awful stories involving kids on the news, to see a story like this where there is actually a happy outcome. thanks fox, for sharing some GOOD news now and then.

Comment by Rich

Sad as it is, it is a rare incident for this to happen, but it has happened before. Numerous times people ahve been taken to autopsy, only to have awakened prior to the cutting. How the baby survived more than 24 hours and being left to lay quietly is a mystery, for ususally a infant needs handling, jostling, rocking, or simply the touch of another human. Was this divein intervention, or simply negligence will never be known, but it does make one wonder. God works in mysterious ways, at least that is what we are told.

Take the Doctor who said the baby was stillborn and shoot them. Maybe the next time something similar happens that Dr. will be more careful.

I bet this would never have happened if it had been a boy. Or was this another case of an “untouchable” person? hmmmm

Comment by RAN

Makes you wonder about those Indian Doctors? Do they go to school and train in India? Hopefully, they don’t come to the states!

Comment by kim

Holy cow! I’ve heard everything now! Definitely malpracitce! Did anyone think to check for a pulse with a stethascope before pronouncing her dead?? Do they have stethascopes there?? What the!!??

Comment by Heywood Jablomie

See!! I told you guys socialized medicine is AWESOME!!!

Comment by Jessica S Naples, FL

How many “preemies” are needlessly and unnecessarily placed into incubators and affixed to tubes?

This story is about survival of a 2 months premature baby with NO MEDICAL SUPPORT. In fact, there was NO SUPPORT WHATSOEVER for the first 24 hours after the baby was born.

There are plenty of questions, but the facts remain - a “limp” baby appeared dead to medical staff; the family went to bury the corpse the next day; the “stillborn” baby awoke, gurgled, and viola! Miraculously, there was a birthday to celebrate instead of a funeral.

Instead of poking fun at medical care in India and assuming this is India’s problem, why don’t we question needless medical care in our own America?

Comment by cmnut123

Wow, almost buried alive. Did anybody check for a pulse? Limp is NOT dead! If there was blood to the brain, she should be ok!! God bless that sweet baby

Comment by cleatus

Just the type of health care we can expect if we go socialized medicine…

Comment by Kathleen

I have heard that US hospitals have started outsourcing some diagnostic procedures to India to save money. For example X-rays can be read from anywhere.

Comment by Mary McCauley

My first child was stillborn. I was young, and my husband and I were devestated. I had a daughter and just knew she was a girl before she was born. (They didn’t have ultrasound available in the late 70’s). I am happy for this family and praise God for this miracle. They did an autopsy on my child that I carried fullterm, but didn’t find anything wrong.

I would be suspicious of the doctors who pronounced her dead, and I’d also be suspicious of the strong medications that the mother was on. They wouldn’t give me any kind pain medicine except for the epidural which is given close to the time of birth. The nurses told me they didn’t want the baby to be sleepy. All my other kids turned out just fine–had 3 healthy kids.

Comment by Lynda W. H.

After living in India this does not surprise me; you are more likely to come out of a hospital in worse shape than you went in. I wonder how many other babies have died, and continue to die, in this country due to this exact occurrence.

Comment by Paul

Is it any surprise from a culture that thinks a 8-limbed kid is a goddess?

Comment by Brenda Heywood

That is some serious gross incompetence and negligence.

What kind of medical knowledge do they have?

Apparently very little. And the “powerful medications”? Are they complete idiots to give that to the mother while the baby is still in the womb? Yes would be the answer to that.

What if that poor baby had not started “gurgling” until after she was buried? Thats just an absolutely horrific thought.

I hope they have learned a valuable lesson and i shudder to think if this is the first time this has ever happened at that facility.

Thank God the baby’s guardian angel was looking out for her, something certainly saved her little life.

Comment by Melissa

Definitely there is a god! I just thank god that the baby woke up before he was buried underground. Its to bad things happen like that, it makes you wonder about the babies here in the US. I wish the best of luck to the baby, what a miracle!

Comment by George Sausman

A lighted candle foe her long and happy life and to the love of her family.

Comment by Laurie Lee

You’ve got to be kidding me! I cannot comprehend how in the world this child was almost buried alive because hospital staff never took a pulse, checked for breathing, tested reflexes, anything, to make sure this baby was indeed “dead.” It is the year 2008, and the action by the hospital staff is nothing shy of behaving like they live in the stone age. Thank you GOD for sending your Angels to protect this precious little baby from a certain horrible death by slowly suffocating. Unbelievable. Everyone of those staff members should never again be allowed to practice medicine. They may have passed all their tests in medical school, but they have failed one too many persons with their negligence. Forgive them as people making a huge error, but take away their right to work in the medical field.

“To err is human….” but to pronounse a new born child as “DEAD” before checking for a PULSE or to look and see if the chest is moving because she is BREATHING is absolutely inexcusable… for India, US, UK, Canada… ANYWHERE. The “medical” staff in that room should NEVER be allowed to practice medicine in India or anywhere. This whole situation is nothing but B.S. Thank you GOD for sending an Angel to watch over this tiny baby to ensure she would NOT die a horrendous death of suffication. And, GOD, may you be praised all over the world for your true “Miracle” baby!

Comment by mrs. ruby

Wow. What a story. It’s hard to believe that a hospital would be so negligent of the baby’s health. That mother has been through so much. In some ways, I wonder if it could be an answer to their prayer. Jesus brought Lazarus back from the dead and also healed others who had been declared dead. If I were that Mother and Father, I would be joyful. I wish the article had indicated if the baby looks healthy or if it suffered from dehydration since it was not fed and perhaps may have had harm done from the neglect.

Comment by Nicole

I can’t believe this story.. I know that its true because I don’t think they would report it if it wasn’t but come one.. Just because the baby was born “limp” doesn’t mean that she was stillborn or dead.. did anyone check for a pulse. What the hell is going on over there that they could make a mistake like this. Thank God that this poor little innocent child awoke before they burried her.. How awful would that have been!!!! If I were this childs mother (and thank god im not) I would own the doctor and the hospitol that I was delivering at.. That cannot be considered a mistake and can not be tolerated!!!!!

Comment by Kathy

Right - and the US has a broken health care system. I am so tired of the berating of health care in the United States. This case is a “no duh” in that the infant was ‘limp’ from drugs mom received in delivery. Can’t believe they didn’t think of that first - maybe take a pulse? Hello?
Maybe to an EEG brainwave to determine brain death?
I’ll take the US to ANY other country’s health care system, any day any time.

I learned all I need to knwo from this: when all else fails…gurgle. I am acually quite happy that things turned out this way. Kind of makes me wonder, though…have the aforementioned medications been used or tested relatively late-stage pregnant women before?

Comment by R Holdbrooks

Is this ALL of the story? What about the spiritual aspects? Was there prayer being made for the child?

What comments do the family and friends have? What do they say about it?

Comment by Robin

Did they not even check for a heartbeat?? may have been weak but would still have one..With medical costs as high as they are you would think we as a nation would start demanding better care..Simply incompentent..!! Really makes me question our medical and I am in the medical field..Go figure

Comment by NAR

Glory to God! Just a simple declaration from the doctor’s declared the baby stillborn. This reminds me of that story in the bible when the little girl had died. Jesus visited the families home and told her to arise. He made her spirit come back into her body. I praise the Lord everyday for the miracles that are happening in these times.
