The McHealthy Diet
A Virginia man lost about 80 pounds in six months by eating nearly every meal at McDonald’s.
Not Big Macs, french fries and chocolate shakes. Mostly salads, wraps and apple dippers without the caramel sauce.
Chris Coleson tipped the scales at 278 pounds in December. The 5-foot-8 Coleson now weighs 199 pounds and his waist size has dropped from 50 to 36.
The 42-year-old businessman from Quinton says he chose McDonald’s because it’s convenient.

OMG, Chris Coleson is one of the yummiest bears I’ve seen in a long time! Drool !!
Just goes to show you….you can eat right anywhere, even at McDonald’s. It’s all about the food choices you make.
Why did this make national news? Did you go to him or did he go to you (FOX)? I suppose this man thinks his story is worthy of a book and movie. I saw the Smart ordeal has made the cover of People’s. I think people like this man, the Smart family, and Amy Fisher exploit the media to get attention. Such people should get a life and leave us alone.
publicity stunt only, Inspired by Jared(SubWay) But good on the weight lose
The reason this is news is because of that fraud “Supersize Me”. It goes to show that it isn’t McDonald’s fault, or any fast food place, that American’s are fat. It is because of the choices American’s make.
Fred M this should be news. Do you remember that hack who did supersize me? Liberals ate it up (no pun intended), it was on every news show and news paper. Blame McDonalds blah blah blah. People have choices on what to eat, they are not forced to order a Big Mac with 45 grams of fat they choose to order one. Now back to your original comment, yes Fred this is news because liberals made it news with supersize me.
Now I use the term liberals because my liberal friends bought the scam of that movie hook line and sinker, while my Republican educated friends knew it for the piece of garbage it was.
HOGWASH…
This guy didn’t lose weight by changing his eating habbits. There is no way in the world.
Not without excercise. I’ve lost 25 pounds in 2 1/2 months by working my arce off excercising and changing my eating habbits AND giving up beer.
I call BS on this one.
so jow come his wife of 10 years doesn’t cook healthy meals for her hubby?
Sounds like someone wants to be the next “Jared” for McDonalds. Sounds way too fishy to me. Your not going to lose 80 pounds just eating at Mickey D’s, there has to be something more, something we’re not seeing, something, like a LIE!!!. I’m with R&RDude. Not going to happen without excersise. Hmmmm!
Certainly true that by changing what you eat and concentrating on portions, you change your body and lose weight. I have done that to lower bloodsugar and have dropped about 15 pounds over the last 6 months. I can’t go totally fiber like this guy did, though. I have Crohn’s and digesting too many fresh fruits and vegetables makes me bleed and the guts scream in pain as the stomach bloats like a beach ball.
But by cutting pasta and potatoes and eating more cooked and steamed vegetables, I am changing the body composition.
I agree with R8R dude, but in all fairness the article never claimed he didn’t do exercise. It only said he ate McDonalds a lot. It is possible to eat only salads and lose weight without exercise – say if you only had 1500 calories a day coming in. The amount and the speed still suggests he must have at least been doing some regular exercise.
I’ve been trying to lose weight – and have. But I too have to completely give up beer… if anyone can ever figure out how to make a true “Diet Beer” they deserve a billion bucks. I’ve also given up most fast food and exercise for about 45 minutes daily.
I’ve managed to go from 260 to 220, but now I am up to 235. Actually I don’t mind 235 now because I have gotten a lot more muscular while losing fat. I have a big Slavic frame, and I like being a big guy that can run a few miles everyday. I don’t want to be under 200 pounds.
always a matter of personal choice and control. nobody attacks burger king or wendys…..
That is good he lost the weight, but I have a better one for you. My husband weighed almost 400lbs in 2002. Diets weren’t working. So he ate double cheeseburgers from McDonald’s for lunch and dinner and a strawberry shake and lost over 200lbs in a little over a year. We thought something was wrong, but the doctor said his health was fine. So you don’t have to eat just wraps and apples. It is how much you eat, not what you eat.
Yep, this guy looks like the model of good health, same goes for Jared.
I also eat at McDonalds every day! I wanted to do a sequel to “SupersizeMe” on “Don’t be a Supersize Idiot”! I am a PE teacher and I tell my students its all about making GOOD choices, not only in what you choose to eat, but in life as well! I am 5′7″ and kept my weight around 130, only BECAUSE I eat at McDonalds!
McDonalds make delicous salads in just the right proportions, which include grilled chicken, five diffferent kinds of lettuce, tomatoes, beans, corn, almonds instead of croutons…good stuff! McDonalds wraps are a handy snack & filling when I am on the go and cant sit down for lunch!
This satisfies me to get through the day. I come home and eat something with protein and veggies, often its another salad from McD’s or I might buy a Big Mac & take off all the buns! I eat relatively early in the evening and might top it off with a small serving of frozen yogurt.
On RARE occassions I might splurge and have a small batch french fries, or a hot fudge sundae. Its all about moderation, moderate what you put into your body! Like “Duh”!!!
As a matter of fact, I lost 30 pounds in two months (250 to 220) simply by changing my diet. I stopped stuffing my face every time I sat down to eat, cut out almost all sugar, which was fairly difficult to do, cut out the fried foods, and I did not lift a finger to do the first exercise.
Additionally, I have an uncle who tipped the scales at 367 lbs. and by changing his diet, he lost 92 lbs., again with no exercise. Believe what you want, but I know first and second hand that it can be done.
I WOULD BET YOU THAT THIS MAN HAD GASTRIC BY-PASS SURGERY AND YES ATE AT MCDONALDS BUT IN SMALL PORTIONS.
It’s obvious by some comments on here that they refuse to believe this story because it doesn’t fit in with their “ZOMG McD’s is evil” prejudice.
It is entirely possible to lose weight, even a lot of weight, simply by changing how you eat.
Suppose this guy was eating 2700 calories a day to maintain his weight at around 280. What do you think would happen to his weight if he dropped that down to 1500 calories?
But you guys go ahead, it’s always someone else’s fault.
He chose McDonalds’ 3 times a day b/c it’s “convenient?” You have to drive out 3x a day for salad and apples when you can go to the grocery store ONCE to get that and pay 1/10th the price. What a waste of money for such simple foods he could have prepared at home to share with his wife and children.
I have never had weight problems, but I do know that you can lose weight simply by lowering your intake without exercising. I’ve done it plenty of times, as my weight tends to fluctuate slightly depending on how much I eat. I also have not had to give up beer or any other alcohol. I drink probably 3 nights a week, sometimes more, but it is almost never more than 1 or two beers, or one glass of wine with dinner.
Awesome! There ARE ‘okay’ things to eat at fast food! For example, if you must eat fast food (long drive, late work, etc.) you can order reg size burger with no mayo, no cheese. ALWAYS skip on the fries. People need to be aware of healthier choices. I commend this man. Very proud for him! Keep up the good work!
Hurrah for common sense and common logic! One can eat right just about anywhere today. Ameicans are fat because they eat to much and move to little.
If you start at 278, yes in fact you can lose weight just by changing your eating habits because the normal things you do in life at 278 can be the exercise. I don’t think this article is claiming McDonalds is the sole reason he lost weight. Like several previous posters pointed out, it is a specific example based on prior “unscientific” study that showed McDonalds being very unhealthy. Anyone can approach Fox with a news story, but no one can demand being covered. Good for him, and good for the fast food industry. It’s not their fault Americans are fat. It’s people with “bad habits”.
This guy didn’t lose weight by changing his eating habbits. There is no way in the world.
Of course you can lose weight just by changing your diet…I have lost 50 pounds over the last six months by just eliminating all refined carbs and eating mostly veggies, fruit, and meat. And I have not added on iota of exercise to my routine.
