Sexpert Q&A: Would We Die Without Sex?

Dear Dr. Yvonne,
What does a lack of sex do to somebody? Would we die?
Rich
Dear Rich,
While this would seem like a simple question, it’s actually quite complicated, depending on your belief system. A person’s reasons for not having sex can play a huge part in how their mind-body-soul responds to a chronic state of abstinence. Religious figures who practice celibacy to a tee, for example, may live long, healthy lives in part because they feel a great spiritual reward for this earthly sacrifice.
Different philosophical and religious perspectives on how the world works are all going to have a different answer for you. The Taoists, for example, believe that it is harmful for a man to practice total celibacy. They hold that this actually creates a strong desire for sex, which results in an imbalance of energy, vitality, and spirit. In their view, it could also cause a loss of sexual essence and energy through increased wet dreams (and, according to their belief system, semen should not be wasted “recklessly”). So really, you see, the choice of life or death is really up to you.

Well think about it. No sex, no kids and definately no population. So, my question to you is when is your column going to get taken off of here? We don’t like this junk on a well respected news station. You’re in our prayers as always.
Speaking for myself only… I would die.
I don’t understand Ross’s issue with the column. Just because he isn’t capable of having a rational, adult conversation about one of the biggest aspects of the human experience doesn’t mean he has to resort to hateful comments. I enjoy the writing, and its giving me much to think about in my own dating life. Its definitely refreshing to be able to read about these topics from a mature, focused mind.
That is a truly stupid answer. The answer to the literal question is: Yes, because everybody dies sooner or later, with sex or without. The answer to what the questioner probably meant is: no, refraining from sex is not going to kill you, with one caveat. There is apparently some evidence that frequent ejaculation may decrease the risk of prostate cancer in men, so it is possible that some men die of prostate cancer as an indirect result of refraining from sex. In any event, the answer is neither complicated nor dependendent on one’s belief system. As a matter of biology and physiology, celibacy does not kill its practitioners.
Love your column, Dr. Y!! Fox should really take nasty people like Ross off their site. If he’s so anti-sex, then why’s he reading about it? Pray for yourself, Ross – hypocrits like you are the ones in trouble judgement day…
In ragards to the suggestion that Ross’s comments be removed… This this is the comments section. Ross made his comment and did not use profanity. If we all agreed on everything, we would not have a need for comments. Or, maybe, we could have just one comment on every article… Mine, perhaps?
I have read the comments and I am sticking to my original opnion on this matter. I would die. It might even be voluntary at some point.
