Bottom line...we make time for what is important to us, and we adjust our budgets to accomodate what is prioritized in our lives. It took me 34 years and a diagnosis of diabetes to realize that maybe my priorities weren't where they should be. It is a lifestyle change and a commitment to stick with it. I know, I know, our doctors tell us this every time we go in to see them, but it's true. Take it from a wife and mother of four it is hard work, but after you get used to it, it's not that difficult. You train your brain to think of food and exercise in a totally new way. It's been 10 months since what seemed to be an early death sentence for me. I know people live forever with diabetes, but it was all accompanied with cholesterol issues, heart issues...things that made me a ticking time bomb for heart attack, things that would devastate my family. There are definite benefits from the committment. Your energy level will drastically improve. Your self esteem will skyrocket. Your waistline will diminish. Your skin will improve. For the ladies, your monthly cycle will be less painful with exercise. The people around you will notice the difference in you and will respond in a positivie way. I'm on a slower track than I wanted to be, but I gained the weight across ten years and it won't all come off in a year, but I'm getting there and I feel so much better. Love yourself enough to do this for yourself. Doing it for someone else won't stick if you don't want it yourself. We are meant to be balanced physically, mentally AND spiritually. Just working on one aspect will leave you still feeling of kelter. Put good things in your mind and keep in close touch with God. He will definitely give you the strength and the drive toward success in all three areas...just ask him! :o) Good luck and buckets of blessings!!

ok... all of those are true. And, for the most part, all of them are here to stay. So what is the answer? How do we combat a lifestyle that simply is not going away?

I agree that alot of people complain about the cost of healthy eating. But if you spend the same amount of money on healthy food as you do unhealthy food you are most likely getting more realistic "portions" of food anyway. So not only do you eat healthy, you eat less. I try to shop on the outer perimeter of the store the most because that is where all of the fresh foods are, everything in the middle is canned, boxed or bagged....

I particularly appreciated the "stress" section above. The results of a new Harris Poll found that MOST of the 20 milliion people in the sandwich generation are having to choose at least once a week between neglecting their kids or neglecting their parents. More on the poll results can be found at www.demossnewspond.com/presto.

FYI: July is Sandwich Generation Month!
