Sexpert Q & A: Morning Sex . . . and Morning Breath

Dear Yvonne,
I want more “morning sex,” but my girlfriend has admitted that bad breath concerns are holding her back. While brushing our teeth beforehand is an obvious answer, it’s not exactly the sexiest form of foreplay.
Any ideas on how we can nip this problem in the bud?
                     Tim

Dear Tim,
The first thought that comes to mind is to have breakfast in bed. Having coffee and a bite together in your boudoir can help ease bad breath concerns. A more creative approach, however, would be to be each other’s breakfast. This is a great opportunity for oral sex with enhancers, like flavored lubes and condoms, breath mints, hot tea, ice cubes… anything edible that can help to provide a different sensation when going down on each other – and kill bad breath concerns. Furthermore, get creative in your “menu” choices – don’t be afraid to start off your day with dessert!

Bad breath beat no breath at all.

My husband just keeps those little breath mint strips (listerine makes them) that dissolve on your tongue in his nightstand. Helps kill bad breath, without having to get up and brush his teeth.

After 17 years of marriage (22 yrs together total), and four kids, we’ve gotten over the “gotta keep the romance going” feeling. On the mornings that we’re both in the mood, we both get up and use the bathroom, swish quickly with mouthwash, shut and lock our bedroom door and then have our fun. Morning breath isn’t an issue after an ounce of Scope and two decades of avoiding waking kids or roomates.

The best thing for the morning – share an apple. There’s something about apples that takes away that awful breath, and sharing it can be a sensual experience. I forget where I learned this, but it works great. Leave an apple on the nightstand at night, and enjoy your morning!

I think that is a lame answer, get up and make breakfast and eat it in bed and then have sex? Who has the time? Keep gum by the bed, pop one in, roll over, and pop one in. :) And who says ya have to face her, from behind the foul smell won’t be so in her face. Remind her also, that her breath is just as bad, big deal.

Or, just don’t kiss, and get right to business.

I LOVE the way this woman thinks!

Fresh Strawberries or Peaches!

Wouldn’t leaving a mint on the nightstand been the obvious answer?

Come on man. Just kiss each others neck, cheeks and ears and pond away. Morning quickies should be fast furious and to the point and the best way to wake up! Then go get your coffee and wait until the rooster crows again.

“Can Breast-Feeding Result in Arousal?

I have yet to give birth and breast-feed, so I won’t be able to confirm this one for a while. It certainly gives me something to look forward to.” Kind of pornagraphic don’t you think Yvonne? I wish Fox News would counter your “sexpertise” with a Christian perspective on sex (‘Fair and Balanced’ right?). The article just seems a bit ‘over-sexed’ to me.

The most perfect choice is Peppermint Altoids. We have used them for 5 years when we first wake up in the morning and we already know our breath will be not so nice , but these take the worry away completely. Take another one if you need to after awhile. The Peppermint works the best and the Cinnamon the least.
They are sex lifesavers.

“Mint gum by the bed” was taught to me my first time at age 23 by the gorgeous, big-lipped blonde 32 year old divorcee.

“Nah, not cinnamon. Mint.”

Learn it well, lads.

Yes, you can do all kinds of things after a night’s sleep, but perhaps the real problem is what the young man is doing the night before. Maybe a little less to drink, maybe a little less garlic, maybe taking care of the nasal passages so he’s not breathing through his mouth, maybe dropping a little weight……maybe a touch of guilt about taking marital pleasures without marrying his girl impedes his sleep….

….leave it to the libertines to suggest any number of complicated solutions to something that might not actually be that puzzling.

Simple solutions to unattractive bad breath in the morning are brushing, flossing and using a mouthwash at night to lessen the “Aaaarrrrgggghhhh” of morning, and we keep a little pack of Listerine Breath Strips on the night table. They come in a few flavors and the “medicinal” taste disapates quickly. If you both use them it won’t matter. I’m all in favor of playing BEFORE I put my feet on the floor…..getting ANY sort of “coffee-and” together is a mood-killer for me for sure.

By the way…..I’m 62 and he’s 65…..and we’re having lots more fun now than ever…….and by the way…..what’s a condom for???? (Don’t get bent outa shape – it was a joke! We both have a very UN-checkered past and have had the usual run of tests with stellar results.)

Quite possibly the best advice I’ve ever heard on this subject. may I recommend playing a soundtrack like the artists on The Hotel Cafe which has David Ford, Sara Bareilles, and Priscilla Ahn. Great way to start your day ;)

Doggie style in the morning – no bad breath issues.

Hey–maybe this is why dogs do it this way:-)

Good advice, as usual.

Also, though, good oral hygiene before going to bed can make a big difference. A tooth paste with triclosan as an ingredient can help, as can flossing.

Oh, and … don’t forget “mentholated” cough drops for their sort of exotic cooling sensations during oral sex. Some folks find the menthol numbing, which can be an issue, but even if it happens, it’s not long-lasting.
