Teni, I really hate to believe that but we do know where Obama stands on protecting life. Dr. don’t worry too much about the work load there might not be too many full term babies.

We should watch for a boom in abortions during the next nine months. How many of those “Obama baby mothers” are going to think that baby is the “burden” Obama has said it is?

Perhaps the Doctor’s reasoning about the result of ‘close couples’ is correct but the resulting theory may be askew. If political leanings are heartfelt, maybe we are in for an “Obama Abortion Boom”.

I wonder if anyone has access to those numbers and can track them on an ongoing basis so that we can get cumulative statictics in 12 months and maintain those numbers going forward.

We always hear the left say “We want abortions to be safe and rare”. But will the statistics really bear that out. Or will a pro-abortion president make it more socially acceptable among the ‘heartless’ crowd.

I think with the economic crisis now is a terrible time to even consider having children… You do realise most states already have pre-natal health care in effect for pregnant women, so what change is he going to bring exactly? (for example, in PA you can phone the Healthy Baby Line at 1-800-986-BABY to find out how you can get free or subsidized health care if you are expecting or think you may be expecting) This is why he was elected – people are so ignorant as to what help already exists in this country they are willing to buy into any line of bull.

With Obama in office and supporting Planned Parenthood I would not equate his presidency with the birth of babies. I would equate him more with the death of innocent babies because of his stanz on abortion.

I expect that there will be a boom in babies named Obama. I work at a daycare and one mother just gave birth last month to a baby boy. She was all set to name him Melik Obama, but changed the middle name at the last second. So I expect some Obamas to be born (and there probably already have been some born!). We will see.

My wife and I have fertility issues and have been trying to have a baby for more than two years. When Obama was declared the winner, my wife said to me “I can’t bring a baby into a socialist nation” and with Obama, I fear that is where we are going to be heading.

As soon as Obama signs the Freedom of Choice Act, I am pretty sure that whatever increase there might be in pregnancy rates will taken care as many of those pregrancies are prematurely ended by abortions. And the primary prenatal care that will be funded will certainly head toward Planned Parenthood for the abortion industry. This will of course offset any kind of baby boom you might expect over the euphoria of electing the savior of the world as our president.

Also, as soon as Obama removes Bush’s executive order to not fund abortions worldwide we’ll spread the wealth and reduce the surplus popluation everywhere our money goes for any kind of aid.

Dr. Manny Alvarez uses some interesting verbiage in his description; he talks about “giving” women the access to prenatal care that they truly deserve. What? Giving? I’d love nothing more to know that we can give everything to everyone; however, how do we make the distinction between “deserve” and “desire” when someone else is paying for it? Don’t forget for one minute that Dr. Manny is, above all, a doctor. He is before the cameras and thus, before millions of people every day. A word from this man makes things happen on a big scale. So, let’s consider the pressure he’s under from the medical establishment to tap into the “uncle sugar” bottomless pit of money (after all, there’s a taxpayer born every few seconds). Statements like that from this guy tells me that he is either totally disconnected from reality or that he has been bought and functions as one of the first to put a hook into the new socialist network of tax dollars to be distributed to those who will now fuel this so-called baby boom. I see it as little more than a boon for the medical industry who will suck every available tax dollar in order to fund an absulute tidal wave of well funded (by the productive class), aggressively breeding, low income persons of a particular type, who are getting paid to stay home and … well, you know. All while making doctors happy with our money.

While there may be an increase in the amount of pregnancies during Obama’s presidency, I doubt that there will be a “baby boom,” as in a “boom of babies carried to term, delivered alive, and loved and cared for by parents.” Obama plans to sign the Freedom of “Choice” Act which will basically remove all restrictions on abortions. So partial birth abortions will be allowed for any reason. Twelve year old girls will not need to notify their parents to have an abortion (but they still can’t take a tylenol at school without parental permission!) There will be no more informed consent laws and babies who survive abortions will be left to die, or just killed outright. Read FOCA you will be shocked at what our new leader plans for our most innocent and vulnerable of citizens. So if by “baby boom” the author really means “abortion boom” then he probably has it correct.

Hopefully those are mostly white pregnancies.

Of course there will be an Obama boom, don’t you know that the more children you have, the higher your welfare check? Happy days are here again, the Democrats will take care of us now!

I doubt that there will be any large increase in births 9 months from November 4, 2008, for two reasons. First, most of the folks we saw on TV (in Grant Park, on MSNBC, etc) may have had a sexual experience, but it was, ah, solo shall we say? Could Chris Mathews actually turn in an expense form for his ruined suit pants? Second, any increase in pregnancies would be offset by the inevitable increase in abortions. Therefore, no big increase in live births should be expected from Obama devotees.

Yes, teach people that they are entitled to something like healthcare. Continue to ignore the constitutional limits on government.

Hmmm… First, everyone has babies in ‘celebration’ (noone can afford them, but who cares, right?). Then, demand for healthcare rises sharply (and nobody can truly afford that either). We then decide that because it was a presidential election that “caused” this problem, the government (i.e. the taxpayer) should pay for it. Therefore, socialized medicine is not only required, but it’s something that our society should do to help those “in need.” Truly an idea of “genius.”

I believe the opposite that birth rates will decrease with Obama in office. Kennedy and the Republican presidents mentioned were pro-life. If they value children and the rights of the unborn, then people that admire and respect them may follow. Obama said if his own daughter made a mistake, he would not want her to be “punished with a baby”. Therefore, if the pregancy would be inconvenient or get in the way of her life, terminating her pregnancy (his own grandchild) is fine with Obama. He also wants to pull out all stops for abortions up to 9 mos. Since Obama does not value the life of an unborn child, others will follow.

A Concerned Mother

I suspect the increase will be higher in the “entitlement mentality” folks. After all the more kids, the more money. I am taking a wait and see attitude but I am confident that the skeptics are correct. If Obama goes through with all of his grand plans we will be bankrupt before his first term is done and it will be 1929 all over again. The difference is that in 1929 people were self reliant and were willing to work for their wages, whatever they might be. People actually felt shame and were embarrassed when they had to accept a handout. Shame is no longer and emotion felt by most Americans. Todays leaders support dependance and discourage the self reliant people. Based on the Obama/Biden rhetoric before the election, the self reliant people will be getting punished for the benefit of the dependant. I think a lot of the entitlement folks will be disappointed.

I have studied pol. sci. for years. In all of my studies there is one thing I have noticed. During democratic presidencies the abortion rate actually decreases (probably due to the wide variety of contraceptives available), and during republican presidencies the abortion rate increases becasue contraceptives are not widely approved or made available to at risk groups.

Just because Obama supports a woman’s right to choose and stem cell research doesn’t mean that he wants abortions to increase.

You left out the third factor-the fact that, thanks to welfare and “social programs” minorities have been children at a record pace, thanks to the fact that the government foots the bill….all of which is leading us into a welfare state. And the Dems aren’t going to cut into that and alienate their base. The last US census revealed 70% of all black children were born to unwed mothers (i.e. welfare recipients). Unlike the eggheads who sit in on these Washinton “think tanks”, I am college educated and live and work in The Bronx. I see the results of “public assistance” FIRST HAND everyday. Uneducated, unmarried women with multiple children by multiple men-each child bringing in more “assistance checks” and food stamps (which can be sold for cash to shady bodega owners) and public housing… If universal healthcare is implemented, they have to place some limit in the number of children covered. There is something unjust about those who can’t afford to care for ONE child having three or four.

Women do have access to prenatal care already just as all Americans have access to health care. Is healthcare a right? I think so. But it’s not a right that taxpayers should be obligated to pay for. You should either get a job with healthcare benefits, pay for healthcare yourself, pay for health insurance yourself or do without. To say Obama should make prenatal care available to all women is ridiculous. If you can’t afford prenatal care, then you can’t afford a child. Practice absitinance and personal responsibility. And if you want healthcare, then also practice a little self-reliance.

Based only on his past voting record, I would expect an increase in abortions. I would be inclined to agree with Dr. Manny, but in this instance, I think there may be some things that should be taken into consideration. You may think that I’m being a smart-alec but I’m very serious. First, consider the liberal philosophies of the new president-elect: He, and typically his supporter (i.e. those who voted for him) are pro-choice. As well, they are going to be feminists who may have careers and pregnancy may not be a wanted condition at this time. Hence, eliminated pregnancies and a reduction of deliveries. Second, the defeat of the GOP’s candidate is not going to serve as an aphrodisiac thereby causing the depressed sexual urge for that particular group. After considering these points, wouldn’t it be safe to presume that pregnacies that are suggested to be on the increase, may just as well cancel one another out? I’m sure there are scientific data to justify the topic of your article. Just a thought.

Wow. People say the craziest things sometimes. Well, I believe that abortions will go up. And I can assure you that with the way the economy is that I won’t be running to my fiancee to make a baby because Obama all mighty has become the president. I am so very thankful that the young, unmarried, African American birth mother of my beautiful and incredibly special adopted son did not ever consider him to be a punishment. She recognized that she had made a mistake and realized that she was not going to be able to provide a good life for him. My husband and I were so honored when she asked us to adopt him!!! I am so thankful that she did not believe in abortion – there is no way that we can imagine life without our precious little boy!

I, too, believe that there will be an increase in abortions as fewer and fewer people accept that life begins at conception and deserves protection no matter the circumstances surrounding his or her parents. The only babies who will likely make it to term, Dr. Alvarez, are those who are “wanted” and “convenient” and “affordable” and “perfect.” How many of us would be here if our parents had applied those qualifications to us?

It continues to amaze me how President-elect Obama could be so in favor of abortion rights when 63% of abortions (at least that is the latest figure I have) are performed on African American babies. Many of these are provided by Planned Parenthood, whose founder, Margaret Sanger, wrote specifically of wanting to annihilate the black race.

My husband and I, who are white, are going to do all we can to raise our son to honor his heritage and become a very responsible, honorable African American man who respects his wife, children, and and his country. God designed him for a purpose, too, and we are amazingly blessed to be a part of God’s plan for him.

I too only see an increase in abortions with Obama as president. How sad not only for the many couples out there DYING for a baby to adopt….but also for those mothers who let their children be killed. The world is over populated PERIOD. If people just stopped having kids there would be more housing ,more food ,more oil ,more of everything. The roads would not be so crowded and dangerous when you drive. We would not be taking all the land from the animals that have no place to live anymore. people would value the people we already have. Yes even the forgotton elder ones. PEOPLE stop having kids. Take care of the people we already have. If your loved one has a drug or alcohole problem or mental disorder or anything take care of them. Abortion is a good thing. To find out you are pregnant and can’t do anything about it is just plain wrong. Not all people like or want kids. And all the people who adopt are not really related to the people they adopt. They are pretending to be related. If they really want to be good people then help people from their own pockets to take care of the babies born to woman who are at risk. Ask any woman who has given up their baby and they will tell you that they were forced in to it for some reason and it is a nightmare that they can not forget. If I knew someone one was brain washing my own flesh and blood in to calling them mommy I could not accept it. #1 Stop the getting pregnant #2 take care of the people we already have#3 help people keep their families together.

Of course the baby boom will be among the welfare babies and underclass since they will be flush with new money stolen from people who work for a living. The first thing that came to my mind reading this article – and I think the title of the article set the tone – “Obama Baby Boom” was the resemblance it has to the German “Lebensborn” program in the 1940’s – financially assisting and encouraging “racially appropriate” mothers to bear children for their eugenics policy. This is a ridiculous article meant to “prime the minds” of suggestible people to go out and have babies for the cause. First it’s the Civilian Security Force he suggested which is what Hitler did with the brown shirts and SS and now it’s this.

Everyone is anti abortion and against helping women get prenatal care??? That makes no sense. I am using protection faithfully but sometimes that fails and i recently lost my job my boyfriend and i are not married yet because we are trying to work and save some money for a home (not an apartment) before we get married. What happens if my protection fails? I am in a committed relationship but we dont have the resources to get a baby here because i dont have health insurance so i cant afford to pay for prenatal care (darn this economy and people losing jobs) so what should i do??? I would never want an abortion dont get me wrong my boyfriend and i would LOVE a little one… but paying for prenatal care and birth out of pocket cost tens of thousands of dollars and we could not run down to the court house and get married if i become pregnant because i would be considered a preexisting condition and would not be covered. What should i do since no one wants to give prenatal care to those of us who have had bad luck with our jobs. Abort the baby or pay tens of thousands of dollars and end up on wellfare because we cant afford food for our family after having the child (and still be looked down upon its a lose lose situation have the baby and be on wellfare or dont have the baby either way in the majority of people’s eyes i would be wrong)??? I understand not wanting to take a life but be willing to help the people who also dont want to take a life when they need it. Not everyone who needs assistance is lazy i spend every day and night looking for a job and attending college full time.

Yeah, with all his social programs and the govt supporting the poor, welfare will be popular again so people will be birthing babies to get that cash.

There will be an increase in pregnancies. Whether or not there is an increase in live births or an increase in abortions will depend on how much extra welfare money a month is granted for each additional child born.

Abstinence is 100% effective. It NEVER fails. Either go down to the courthouse and get married without the expensive party, or keep your panties on until you are married. I kind of doubt you are looking for work “day and night”. There are jobs out there for people who actually want to work. I went to college while the unemployment rate was > 10% (thank you Jimmy Carter) and was always able to find a job of some sort.

With regards to “Obama Baby Boom”. This sounds a little rediculous. Have you not considered the number of abortions and abuse of unborn babies in stem cell research and partial-birth abortions when Obama signs the “Freedom of Choice Act releasing federal funds for abortions and removing all holds on abortions on demand? Are you going to keep those statistics as well when this Holocaust occurs?

Come now people. Obama just wants us to be in parity with China and India. After all, both of those countries abort literally tens of thousands of females each year, which helps with population control.

Add the exemplary ideals of the 57 nations of Islam and stoning the pretty girls to death for inviting men to gang-rape them, and we have some excellent examples of how to control women and the birth rate!

Just think…in just a few years we could be experiencing live-birth abortions, 3+ month abortions, Shar’ia law for those who survived the knife and Yahweh knows what else.

In response to Stephanie’s comment. How do i put this….first i would like to say that I have just finished college and my boyfriend is in now. We both have gone back after having hard times finding jobs in our adult life. We also used protection and had an unexpected pregnancy i’m due in march! No this was not something that was planned or something that we can afford per say. But, i also believe that we were the ones that laid in bed together that night, we knew the consiquenses that were ahead of us had anything happen. Well we did not choose to give this child up(abort) it wasn’t even an option!!! I would also like to add that I am not at a job that I enjoy actually it bores me more days than i care to think about and there is more headache then is necessary but, you have to settle when you no longer have yourself to look out for! my parents did the same thing there are 4 of us none of which you could say they could have afforded to have but they made it work, if that ment one had to pull a little more weight while the other was at a second job. Neither one of them had gone to college until just recently. There are many jobs out there maybe not in the field that we studied or what we would see ourselves doing but its no longer about us! ITS ABOUT THE LIFE THAT IS INSIDE!!! I didn’t have health insurance when i first found out i was pregnant but i didn’t go running to get on assistance that someone else was paying for. To answer your questions:
NRA – I am a proud supporter of gun rights. Inanimate objects don’t kill people. Law-abiding citizens have a right and responsibility to defend themselves and their families. We cannot and should not rely on the government to do that for us.
WAR – I believe the war in Iraq is a just war – I know that puts me in the minority. I don’t think that simply because it has lasted several years makes it unjust. I know that we are doing good for the peoples of Iraq, and the stabilization and hopeful eventual democratization of that region serves our national interests as well.
CAPITOL PUNISHMENT – I wish that it was not required, however one must recognize that there is evil in the world. Sometimes, for the benefit and safety of society in general, CP is required. In this day and age, I believe permanent incarceration to be a preferable alternative, however, I recognize that this is not always possible. Equating CP with Abortion however is silly.

there may be a spike within certain demographies in our society. i have spoken with several people across the country who tell me that there was not only jubilation, but downright rioting the night of the election. care to guess who dominated the throngs? ask students in the dorms at NC State. the NAACP is even involved in the backlash there. how about appalachian state university, where the goal posts were torn down the night of the election. did you see that on the news? i have not personally confirmed that, but was told by two students from that school. yes, there was lots of excitement from the apparently ignorant masses who believe their mortgage payments, gasoline, groceries and healthcare will be paid for now that obama has been elected. call me a racist if you want; the numbers don’t lie. if you voted for obama you better sober up and pay attention.

You are correct – if the number of people on welfare and those not paying taxes start getting more money in Earned Income Tax Credits and Making Work Pay Tax Credits we will see a baby boom in this country. Only problem is that taxpayers will untimately pay for it in the end with increased numbers on welfare and through additional child tax credits to those who don’t even pay taxes. Once Obama takes office, those people who feel that he is going to “save them” – sure, their pregnancy rates are almost sure to go up….I’d take what’s left of my 401(k) and bet that against the house in Vegas.

Could it be that Dr. Manny is showing his political bent? A baby boom would help obama and the demorat party. That being an increase in welfare babies and threfore a ready made constituency 18 years later. They would not have to import illegals or hatchet conservatives. Acorn could stand by and watch instead of signing dead people and actors for a second, third or more times.

There will be an increase in abortion and therefore, a decrease in welfare babies, but if there is an increase in population due to an obamaboom and the trend is true to the cycle indicated in the article, then there will be more conservative families having children out of fear so that they can counteract the drive to register more liberals. I just saw Dr Siegler on Fox News, and while I think Obama’s plan for better coverage sounds good in practice, he brought up who is going to be there to see these people. Myself included are looking for other careers. I am an emergency physician, and while in Dr Seiglers spot, he focused on the disgust of primary care physicians in dealing with the red tape of insurers, for us it is more to do with the legal system. I am working on my MBA and cannot wait for my last clinical day. This circular problem of legal risk, creating defensive medicine, which is more complex, resulting in more testing and higher billing, greater cost, and not really improving the health care product. Our costs simple go to external interests marginally related to actual healthcare.
