What about God loving Muslims who subscribe to holy wars? Not sure why we need scientific proof that humans are likely to be misled no matter who is in charge. History has proven that many times over. Maybe if we recognized that each and everyone of us is as likely to hurt others as not to inflict pain, we'd be less likely to be misled and have a better chance to do the right thing. What about ordinary, God loving folks in Germany and Austria and many other European countries during WW II? What about God loving Muslims who subscribe to holy wars?

Not sure why we need scientific proof that humans are likely to be misled no matter who is in charge. History has proven that many times over. Maybe if we recognized that each and everyone of us is as likely to hurt others as not to inflict pain, we’d be less likely to be misled and have a better chance to do the right thing.

Bad move. There are more "normal" people without a moral compass now than ever before. I ask you where will people form ethics and morals to have the fortitude to resist evil people influencing us if not by a higher spiritual power? This test shows that reasonable "good" people are willing to hurt others when told that an authority asked it. There was no gun to their heads, no implied threat, no imminent danger. I'd rather have a Jesus freak on the deciding side who will say not by your law but by God alone. I trust God not humans. When my husband was working at a federal prison in an eastern state, there was a warden there that took pleasure in firing, demoting, and generally making the life of the EMPLOYEES miserable. Out of 240 employees 1/3 of them were brought up on some kind of trumped up charge with the outcome most of the time being they were either fired or demoted. His cronies, whether they did a good job or not, were promoted. His mistress included. Most of these employees had done nothing wrong, which was proven before a federal judge in some cases. It was a case of ultimate power ultimately corrupting this warden. When he was reported to a higher up, she just smiled and did nothing. The point of this is the employees who were not getting in trouble either helped this warden in his dictatorship or remained quiet. After the warden (dictator) left people came forward with many stories of abuse. To this day nothing was done to the warden involved. This research doesn’t surprise me.
