I read your article on momslikeme site. I found it interesting and very true and to the point. The only part I feel could of been added was sending children to kindergarten just because they turned 5 during the summer. There's no shame in keeping your child home an extra year especially if they lack maturely. I have taught Preschool most of my adult life and now have an In Home Preschool. I have seen and heard a little bit of everything within my 55 years of life. I tell my parents there is more to kindergarten than 123's and ABC's. It is not like it was when they went. Thank you for your article, I hope others read it and take it to heart like I did. Children I feel need to at least know the basics before entering kindergarten the rest should fall in place, but I also feel maturely plays a big part of success in school too, especially in the upper grades.

Regarding kids starting kindergarten, some parents wonder whether it is better for children with late birthdays to be held out for a year to gain a competitive advantage over their younger counterparts when they do start. Well, it turns out that students learn so much so fast in that year of kindergarten that whatever advantage being older provides is quickly superceded by experience in the classroom time they miss.
