I have concerns over a vaccine that was developed so quickly. What will the side effects be? Will the virus mutate right after everyone is vaccinated, making them susceptible again? So far this virus doesn’t seem to have been any worse than the regular influenza virus regarding the number of contracted cases (which are not confirmed btw) and the number of deaths. So what is supposed to make this one so scary? I’ve heard talk that things aren’t so bad now but when flu season hits, it could become catastrophic. Well it’s flu season for those in the southern hemisphere right now and it doesn’t seem to be catastrophic to them. Sorry but, when you look at the facts, somethings just don’t add up. I’m in no rush to put an untested, rushed into production vaccine in mine or my children’s bodies over a flu virus that is no more threatening than the regular flu. If people would just use common sense and stay home when they are sick, this wouldn’t even be an issue. Washing your hands does wonders too!

Novartis, the second contender, also has an agreement with WHO for a pandemic vaccine. Novartis appears to have won the contract, since their vaccine is near completion. What is terrifying is that these pandemic vaccines contain ingredients, called immune adjuvants that a number of studies have shown cause devastating autoimmune disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and lupus.

Animal studies using this adjuvant have found them to be deadly. A study using 14 guinea pigs found that when they were injected with the special adjuvant, only one animal survived. A repeat of the study found the same deadly outcome.

So, what is this deadly ingredient? It is called squalene, a type of oil. The Chiron company, maker of the deadly anthrax vaccine, makes an adjuvant called MF-59 which contains two main ingredients of concern—squalene and gp120. The MF-59 adjuvant has been used in several vaccines. These vaccines, including tetanus and diphtheria, are the same vaccines frequently associated with adverse reactions.

I have a healthy, happy 17 month-old daughter. I was also recently diagnosed with Graves disease. I don’t know if this would be considered a risk factor or not. Should I look into getting the vaccine for both myself and my daughter?

EVERY single year (without fail) that I’ve gotten a flu shot – I’ve gotten the flu so bad (been very sick) and in bed for 10 to 12 miserable days! EVERY single year that I’ve not gotten a flu shot – I do fine – no flu ! So I stopped years ago and started boosting my immune systen through the help and direction of a great local health food store. My all-over health has improved in recent years. No more need for perscriptions (and their toll-taking, ill effects) for me.

FYI to FOX: Health Care should be about improving our good HEALTH. We need to take a good look at our food supply and improve it, and promote GOOD HEALTH for everyone – not dependence on perscriptions (driven sky high in costs by lawyers!) They never had life insurance, burial insurance, or health insurance either (nor did my great-grandparents) – but why would they? There was no need for it then. What will be different about this vaccine versus the vaccine of 1976 that killed so many? How can we reassure patients that this is a different vaccine? Thank you!

I have microscopic colitis, under control with medication. The only symptom I still live with is stomach cramps during the night, depriving me of much needed sleep. Upon having a BM in the AM, the cramps go away and usually do not return until I go to sleep again. My doctor has not been able to give me any relief for the cramps.

It will be three years this fall that I deal with this condition. I eat a healthy diet and my weight is good. I have high b/p and cholesterol, but take medicine for that.

Lately, I’ve been thinking that I may be allergic to fruits. Can any test be done to check if that is true? The medicines I take for the microscopic colitis are: Asacol, 2 three times a day and Entocort, one a day. That keeps the diarrhea under control. I have one normal bowel movement most days.

I exercises 3 times a week doing water aerobics and am basically in good condidion for a 77 year old female. I weigh 122 lbs and am 4 feet 11 inches.

Under NO circumstances should you get the swine flu vaccine. Remember the 1976 swine flu pandemic that fell apart? Thousands of people were injured, many died from the vaccine than from the actual swine flu. These vaccines are dangerous & should be pulled from the market until their safety is proven. If your wondering why it seems as though our government is blowing this virus way out of proportion, it’s because the Obama administration has people in place (our science Czar) that have written about population control by forced sterilization and contaminants in our water supply and they would all love to have the authority to inject unknown substances into our bodies. I believe this flu was man made with the only purpose for some drug company to make millions of money, yes, there is no ethics and I truly believe it will kill a lot of people in order to justify it. I am currently pregnant and no way am I getting anywhere near this new vaccine. It took 5 days to test this – 5 DAYS !!! The current influenza vaccines contain only DEAD flu virus. People get sick from it for several reasond: 1. It takes a full two weeks for the vaccine to be effective, leaving one vulnerable to infection. 2.) Some people have an immune system that reacts strongly to the vaccine, causing a fever, muscle aches, etc. These symptoms are no way as serious as the actual infection. 3.) No vaccine is 100% effective. Some years the vaccine turns out to be only 40% effective. You could be infected by a virus not covered by the currect vaccine. But people….the vaccine does NOT CAUSE influenza! If you have a history of GBS or are allergic to eggs, don’t take the vaccination. I am a practicing physician and find this “swine” or H1N1 flu very confusing to begin with. It is frustrating and fiscally wasteful to see our government spend so much money (over $2 billion and counting) with frightfully poor advice and misinformation. This novel strain is a fourth generation H1N1 flu from 1918 and is coexisting with the seasonal H1N1 flu as we speak (basically cousins). The “kill” rate is comparable and despite its odd “reassortment”, it is relatively weak and comparable in mortality to the seasonal. To showcase science, goverment bureaucracy and politics as pertaining to healthcare reform, this pandemic begins April 15…we have a primetime news conference and announce stockpiling anti-virals and fast track vaccination. First the anti-virals (osweltamivir) are marginally helpful and there is increasing resistance to BOTH the novel H1N1 and seasonal H1N1. Now we dole out hundreds of millions of dollars to three pharmaceutical firms who announce we will have up to 600,000,000 vaccines ready by mid October-November. Yet we will have far less seasonal flu vaccines, which has killed over 36,000 this year in the U.S. alone. Reason? Money. The last mass GOV U.S. vaccination series in 1976 occured with the H1N1″swine” also…strange as the H1N1 was extinct from 1957-1975. Remember that disaster and the harm to the public? Hope we are not “seeding” the public, because we could leak a REALLY bad strain some day and not be as lucky as in 1975 and April 2009.

Let me tell you why I believe I would not encourage this vaccine for children. The CDC has been pushing this vaccine for two years. Even when it looked like there would be no epidemic after all, they seemed to push harder. Also, whenever I see so much pressure to do something, like sign a stimulus bill using terms like: The country will go bankrupt if we don’t, I become suspicious.

France has said they will use catacombs to store the vast numbers of the dead, but only 67 people there have died from the flu. Clearly there is strong rhetoric and an almost frenetic global push orchestrated by some to have these vaccinations worldwide. Do you trust them? Seriously. The number of dead from this illness is miniscule to the amount of people who die annually for the regular flu and these numbers include the elderly. Something seems amiss here. Tell the truth. Has it also crossed your mind that something is just not right? I say trust your instincts.

There are essentially two H1N1 influenza A viruses circulating. One is the seasonal flu H1N1, responsible for 36,000 deaths in the U.S. and the other the much ballyhooed “swine” novel H1N1 accounting maybe for 200 deaths. This swine flu of course, is not a swine flu and comes about with an improbable mix of North American swine, European swine, a watered down bird genome and of course H1N1..now the fourth generation. Wonder if this is man made? The good news is that the novel H1N1 is mild and probably less likely to do as much harm, so why the clamor? Money plus the showcasing of government, politicians and pharma as not only being “scientific”, but acting in our best interest. Bull. We will have up to 600,000,000 doses of the “fast-tracked”swine vaccine and perhaps 150,000,000 of the better suited trivalent flu vaccine. We spent over 2 billion dollars to purchase worthless osweltamivir (high resisitance), N95 masks and the “new” vaccine doled to Baxter, Novartis and GSK. Remember that H1N1 began as the “Spanish flu” in 1918, became extinct circa 1957 and unexplicably “re-emerged” in 1975-76 in a cohort of soldiers at Fort Dix. Then came the government program of the infamous “swine flu” vaccine that was fast tracked and caused more deaths than the virus itself. Recall the economic conditions then in 1976. Look for sporadic outbreaks all summer and fall as we have plenty of “seeds”. I just hope some idiot in a lab won’t accidentally release a more virulent hybrid.

The vaccine is no different from flu vaccines developed annually. There’s no point in comparing current vaccines to those developed in 70s or even those developed in 1918… It would be like comparing a piston engine powered aircraft to e jet fighter. Vaccines developed nowadays are much more effective and safer than those developed earlier. Think about it.

I am a physician who specializes in infectious diseases. In reading these comments, it saddens me that there is such an anti-vaccine sentiment going around part of our population. While every therapy has the potential for side effects, vaccines have improved markedly over the past 50 years. Time and time again, qualitiy randomized studies have showed no link between vaccines and autism. This is not an attempt at “population control” or any other nefarious purpose the conspiracy theorists have thought of. This is an attempt to protect the population. The more people are protected in a population, the more the unvaccinated in the population are protected. Getting a vaccine is good for you and the people around you!
In a side-note, while swine origin influenza now appears to be fairly benign, the medical community is concerned for the following reasons. The last great flu pandemic of 1918 started in a very similary fashion. The first wave was not particularly lethal, hit at the end of the usual flu season, focused on the young, and had a higher propensity to cause viremia (body-wide distribution of virus) instead of local lung infection. The second wave was the deadly wave. Due to the similarities, you can see our concerns.
As for me, I’ll roll up my sleeve and take the vaccine gladly and thank the manufacturer afterwards.

My wife is pregnant and the baby is due this Feb. She works in a low-income school district and sick kids are sneezing and coughing on her all day long. The parents send their kids to school this way as they have no one to watch them otherwise. Our concern is with my wife being exposed to the swine flu vs. the very new swine flu shot. We have talked to several doctors and gotten mixed messages. She is considering just quitting her job and staying home to avoid the exposure but that would be tough financially. Is it possible that schools will start closing again as soon as 1 kid gets sick???

WHY CAN”T THE GOVERNMENT step in and push the start of the school year back two months and just tack it on the end of the year? I think this H1N1 is REALLY going to take off when school starts and daycares become busy again. These tough economic times are going to push parents to pedal off their sick children to the schools and daycares just so they don’t loose their job. I’ve seen it over and over again when the country wasn’t facing a viral crisis. I’m an ER nurse and see/hear this behavior ALL THE TIME! I really really wish someone would take the big step in instituting a postponement of the start of school across the country. It will help more then it will hurt anyone. After all it’s better to be safe then sorry.

I don’t trust this ‘government’ – I actully think there are some people in the government ’so called health service” … that actually want peopl to die… Their thinking is that it will help our planet to to stay green – by having less people – and it will help to solve the unfunded Socila Security problem as well… (Dead folks don’t collect on all that money that they’ve paid it over their entire lifetime. That’s what this WHOLE Obama care hoax is about – giving ‘the government’ to ability to actually kill off a good number of folks… Hech the new Science Czar actually wrote a book on how to kill off – those in our society that are unproductive… (i.e they produce less that $30K in ‘value’ each year – that’s the UK cutoff of providing their rationed care.

Yeah !! THAT would be the day that I’d let some Obama Czar – order a needle of ANYTHING stuck into my body…. It’s a sad state of affairs when a good American like me – just doesn’t trust anything that our government is telling us today. I remember TARP, Porkulus, Cap & Tax, – and that’t just what they’ve done in the LAST SIX months !!

I’m a 54-year-old physician, I’ve never had a flu shot in my life, and the last time I had the flu was around age 8. I’ve always believed that by artificially introducing “immunity” via injection of viral constituents and highly toxic adjuncts, the body is actually weakened and made more vulnerable. Please google squalene, which will be in the H1N1 vaccination. Injected, it will very likely kill you. Don’t be stupid about what you allow into your body. Don’t blindly let the government and others persuade you. Do a little research. The internet can save your life.

After reading the above article, it seems that the best and most effective defense against H1N1 is simply frequent washing of one’s hands with soap and warm water. My own research of of H1N1 (via news articles and WHO and CDC reports) show that the mortality rates of this new strain are no worse and maybe even LESS than regular seasonal flu. I see lots of hype and little substance. It really does seem that a cry of “pandemic” is big business hoping to profit from fear and suffering.

My Father regularly got flu shots during his later years. I would take him in for them. He was never affected by the vaccine, fortunately, and did not contract the flu, either. But he kept away from large groups of people during the height of fly season, too. My husband, on the other hand, got a flu shot through work, as he’s a police officer and is subjected to lots of germs, mostly from co-workers. He was sick as a dog for almost 2 weeks, and has refused to get a flu shot ever since. He’s been lucky and hasn’t gotten the flu really seriously. I was reading the paperwork on the flu shot while in the doctor’s office with my Dad and discovered that Thimerosol is an ingredient in the general flu vaccine. It was also an ingredient in contact lens solution, which is how I found out I was allergic to it. So…………no flu shots for me, either.

We figure that washing hands with hot water and soap goes a long way to cutting down on harmful bacteria. Trying to stay healty does, too. So, we will take our chances, and just reduce contact with large groups of people during flu season whenever possible.

The government is pushing vaccines because they fear being sued for not doing enough, which is what we know will happen. “Thus lawyers doth make cowards of us all”………and common sense and practicality go out the window. Take lawyers out of health care and costs would go down a LOT. Just ask any doctor about malpractice insurance premiums…….

This flu shot is completely unsafe and untested. To say that because a few people have died justifies that all Americans, especially children and pregnant mothers get the shot, is totally bad advice! There are more people dying from so many other illnesses and usually because of other complications. The vaccines in previous years also contained H1N1 viruses, this is nothing new. The first to get the vaccine are pregnant women, people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age, health care and emergency services personnel, persons between the ages of 6 months through 24 years of age, and people from ages 25 through 64 years who are at higher risk for novel H1N1, they say because of chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems. The groups listed above total approximately 159 million people in the United States. They are recommending that everyone get three (3) shots this year. This has NEVER been tested to show that it is safe.
If you or your child die or are severly injured, the government has protected the vaccine manufactures from any litigation. The is proof that all vaccines can lead to micro-vascular strokes within hours after the vaccine. Unfortunately, doctors and parents are not looking closely for complications such as strokes and they are un-noticed. It is only when the child shows lack of development in language and development skills that parents begin to wonder… what happened. It’s a shame there aren’t more psychiatrists available because the paranoia is rampant here. Everybody thinks they are a scientist, epidemiologist, physician. Their common conclusions are that the government, medical care, big business wants them dead. The fundamental problem is lack of trust with a side of ignorance. Vaccines have saved far more lives than have been lost.

People are dirty and you can’t shame people into being cleaner (although the churches sure try). All the fringies can take their stand on this board but we’ll see how many stoically die at home of their flu shunning health care to their grave.

Trying to explain statistics to a lottery culture is futile. Your odds of dying of influenza is much higher than winning a lottery but people line up weekly for tickets but skip the flu vaccine.

Only time will tell which side was right but you can use your science now to take an advantage.
